surround sound on the xbox 360

Ah, cool, I just remember someone in a PGR game saying they're on a 14" :) While kicking everyone's asses ;)

A Sony of that size should support an RGB signal, best to check, though, before buying anything.

If you know the make & model of your current PC speakers, someone will be able to give you an estimate (there's always the price check forum, in members market).

Was looking around for ages for something like the DDTS to use the 360 with my S750's - and found it on the creative site a couple days ago, ordered online for 90quid delivered. Should arrive wednesday :)

YEP ANOTHER HERE FOR GETTING A SCART BLOCK

pop down to argos mate (hope its ok to mention them ) they do a 10 quid 4 way scart block manuel switching every one is fully wired rgb its a great bit of kit for money

also it dosent come with its own crappy scart which plugs into your tv already attacthed to it you put your own on hich can be a good quality one

Problem is with some cheap SCART switching boxes is that they will sometimes drop the picture quality quite badly, I'm sure some people here have bought cheapo Argos ones and have had bad results.

argos do quite a few mate thats why i said that one its made by some other company but is like 25 quid everywhere else

there is no picture loss on this one and is a very favourable piece of equipment over at the av forums with there top end gear

im sure its ok to linkit argos are no competition to o.c surely if i am wrong then please remove asap im only trying to help

I want surround sound too right now if i was to have a DVD player and some surround sound system. If i was to plug the 360 into the dvd player would it work thru the surround alright? Might go see if i can get a cheapy setup for now :)

I think it might be possible (assuming the DSP will also process externally input sound via TOSLINK). Does it have an optical audio input?

Maybe between us we can make a sticky on the principles of surround sound and the 360?

It has to be optical to get 5.1 working with the 360? I had it plugged in downstairs and it seemed to be working thru the surround sound altho the speakers were futher away from me and i wasnt sat in the best position and that wasnt with the optical thing plugged into 360...

I can't see how else it can work. If it was plugged in with the red and white plugs then it was stereo to both front and rear.

I cant seem to find any surround sound things that have an optical in :s Searching on a few high street electrical stores too

The surround system needs to have an amp with it to accept optical, maybe you are just looking at systems with just speakers?

think il get that argos scart switcher
the creative device
and the advanced scart, cheers guys

Someone linked a logitech one on OCUK for about £150 that had speakers and DSP with optical in (afaik).

Logitech Z-680 THX® Certified 5.1 450 Watts Speakers - Retail (SP-006-LG)
This 5.1 set includes a built-in Dolby® Digital and DTS® hardware decoding system. You can connect the Z-680 directly to a PC sound card, Xbox™, PlayStation®2, DVD player, satellite receiver or other Dolby-ready source and get a true surround experience.

im in a different boat to your Rich as i already have a 5.1 surround sound system, hell even the 100 quid im looking at paying is a bit steep

out of intrest could i run a line in to my pc and make the PC output the sound through the speakers, or would this not work

EDIT - them argos speakers look canny tbh, for the price

I got my Scart Switcher from Argos few weeks ago, first one i got didn't work very well, so i took it back and exchanged it for a 3x way Hitachi one (pic of the box on the 2nd page of my thread here ), and its working fantastic, only £15, and theres absolutely no picture quality loss whatsoever, got my Sky plugged into it as well, well happy with it. :D

Was out of the old catalogue though, as in the new one the number relates to a different one (which is a 4x way of the one i took back), but i was lucky as they still had stocks of the Hitachi one so thats the one i got, the one from the new catalogue will probably replace the Hitachi one when theres no stocks of it left. :)
