surround sound on the xbox 360

does seem a lot of money! I want something a bit cheaper if possible. I was looking at the complete surround sound systems and none of em seemed to have optical things. There is one in argos for £90 that does tho i think its ok to use?

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5125423.htm seems alright?

You won't be able to find good quality sound with optical for such a low price. The logitech ones are bargains. You have to spend money if you want good audio. I will be getting some Z-5500's very soon and selling this god-awful 7.1 creative speakers.

Should work although it says will convert ANY DVD player and not every DVD player has optical out.

im in a different boat to your Rich as i already have a 5.1 surround sound system, hell even the 100 quid im looking at paying is a bit steep

out of intrest could i run a line in to my pc and make the PC output the sound through the speakers, or would this not work

EDIT - them argos speakers look canny tbh, for the price

I think my Amp and speakers came to the best part of £3000 about 5 years ago. The sub alone was £500. Prices have fallen a lot though.
I have spent a silly amount of cash on new cables etc since getting my new TV as well.

Indeed, I use a £140 component cable from my DVD player to my TV. Thats just for image!

too much money VIR ;)

Bah:p We bought a new house so added slightly to the mortgage :p
I think in retrospect that the speakers are a bit large for what is needed, I have NEVER been able to really turn the volume up very far because the neighbours in the next county complain ;)

I can't see how else it can work. If it was plugged in with the red and white plugs then it was stereo to both front and rear.

You'll get 'Surround Sound' via Dolby Pro Logic if you only use the two channel red/white cable, which is pretty poor and nothing compared to Dolby Digital 5.1

I wish I had a 360 at my parents house, I've got ~£1500 worth of surround sound setup which needs to be pushed :)

Ahh that is true but is it really surround sound? I don't think it splits into 5 channels does it? I think it is left, right and rear only?

I think it kind of sticks voice + similar stuff in the centre speaker, and kind of splits the left + right to rears... it's not very good really.
