A quick question. I've got an option to swap my 6600 GT (128Mb) for a 7600 GS (256Mb) card. It's a straight swap with no money changing hands.

I'm too busy (and too naive) to compare the specs of these cards and would like your opinions...

TIA

hmm.. according to this you're looking @ 4k in 3dmark05 with the 7600GS. Try running it with your 6600GT and see what you get. The extra ram on the card would be useful too.

If this person wants to swop out all your gear for newer stuff free of charge, can you point him my way please. :p

I would predict it to be quite a bit faster and the 7600GS can overclock well too. An added benefit would be silence as they come pre-fitted with a large black heatsink.

In some games, the 7600GS is barely faster than a 6600GT due to memory bandwidth, but in others, it can be miles ahead, so I'd definately get the 7600GS if it's free!!!! Got some nice other advantages too, like using less power.

Yeah - I noticed in the review that the 'real world' performance in games was only marginally better. I never really pay attention the 3dMark scores anyway.

I've just got my hands on the new GS card. I'll fit it after the footy tonight. It's got a teeny-tiny fan on it which I reckon is going to create a lot noise. Hopefully Arctic Cooler will bring something out in the near future.
