Hi, sorry if this is posted in wrong section, wasnt sure but thought here as its file related!

I have whs with 3tb of hdd's with files i want to transfer to my htpc when its built in few days.
could i just plug the hdd into the htpc and it will read it or do i have to transfer over network.

thanks Ali

You can plug the HDD directly into the HTPC. You may need to manually assign it a drive letter by going to:

Computer > Manage > Disk Management.

Though transferring over the network is less hassle, and can be very quick if you have Gigabit networking. :)

If they're from a Windows Home Server machine, whilst the disks are NTFS, the shares are split over various disks.

It'll probably be just as quick doing it over gigabit network, and less hassle with pulling machines apart.
