Anyone else discovered their love for swimming again?

Currently doing about 60 Lengths/Hr (25m) pool not including breaks which equates to about five minutes total. Been doing this for a few weeks and find myself improving more and more, maybe through an improved stroke (pardon the pun) or maybe my stamina rates are improving. I was cycling 8 miles a day before this, what is the better workout?. I definitely feel less battered from swimming but always feel a lot more tired and always a lot hungrier when I come out of the pool

Does anyone know an estimate calorie rate burnt for an hours swim, I know it's hard to get an exact figure but roughly?

I'm after pure weight loss currently at 13st (aiming for 12.5) from 16.2st this time 4 months ago

I started again back in the summer, rapidly got myself up to 120 lengths (25m pool so 3km total) in around an hour, sometimes less, sometimes more, do that three times a week, I could do more but I do get a little bored and have to get out at some point :)

It's done wonders for my overall fitness even though it does still cause me issues with my knee :(

Drop the breaks and just swim a slow length if needed though, you'll be amazed at how easily you'll be able to do the lot without stopping :D

Wow good effort :D, yea I can feel myself getting better for example on my first swim it took me 1 hour 45 to do just a mile to be fair I was with my friend and we did have a good natter and a few breaks

Is it best to just stick with a slow breast stroke then over the course of an hour, purely for weight loss and stamina training?

Rather than tiring myself out with short bursts of fast front crawl?

Might have to join you one day.

I fancy a bit of swimming!

That would be awesome dude anytime you want. I'm there almost every day now I really am hooked, it's a good alternative to cycling Guisborough woods which are just a pure mudbath at this time of year, fun but a messy way to exercise

Took me over an hour the first mile I did too :D

I use front crawl exclusively due to aforementioned knee issues and not wanting to put additional stress on it with the kick from breast stroke.

For weight loss you need to get your heart rate up, so as long as it's up in the fat loss zone it's all good.

Front crawl absoloutely knackers me out after about 4 continuous lengths. So I prefer to stay back with breast stroke because I find I can do this almost continuously.

I don't think my stamina levels are up there to do a constant hour of front crawl tbh. It's funny how things work, I notice how I'm in better shape than a lot of people in the lanes but have noticed some do almost an hour of continuous front crawl without stoppage, is it all in the stroke or is there much more to it?

I was the same, but I rapidly found my stamina growing everytime I went, probably due to an improved stroke and making sure I was getting enough food to build muscle over the first couple of months rather then going straight in for weight loss.

Summer down here and the local pool just had a renovation completed,

Gonna start up when work finishes for the year.

Hopefully i can still remember everything i got taught from my lessons in the middle of the year :)
