Yes the idea of having flights to switzerland would hopefully be to go there (bangs head on table)

I've got family in Genève. We drove and stayed with them for a few days last summer from Italy. Havn't really been around Genève a lot - the last time I properly went around town was when I was a kid. But they've got a nice lake which you can row on. And we happened to be there for a bank holiday so we watched the fireworks down by the lake. Other than that, their town centre is pretty much like any average town centre - with a great selection of chocolate shops! Oh, and they also have the UN Office which is always cool to pass. I'd like to actually go to the slopes/hills one day.

Id reccomend a Visit to Les Diablarets, including a trip up to the top of (i cant remember which peak) on glacier 3000 (its a massive cable car)....

Wow those pics look amazing, having a look there now looks great, going to try and see as many places as possible and that looks like its going to be one of them!

Went to Switzerland just before christmas.

Didnt like it at all.

Majority of Swiss are obsessed with rules and conforming, due to their society. here are some rules, all true

You cant wash your car on a Sunday.
You cant hang your clothes out to dry on a Sunday
(in fact you arent really allowed to do anything on a Sunday over tehre)
It is illegal to flush the toilet after 10pm if you live in an apartment.
A man may not relieve himself while standing up, after 10pm.

We were out at restaurant and left about 11pm, on the way home we saw a guy standing at a pedestrian crossing.

He waited till the green man showe..., before he crossed the road. It was 11pm and the roads were absolutely dead.

We saw a whole host of otehr wierd things and came to the conclusion that it must be qutie a restrictive society to produce such odd behaviour.

Clarkson also went to Switz and did a piece on it (quite old now I think). One of the things was that if you cut somebody up or somebody sees you cut somebody up on the rroad. They are entitled to either:

a) Call the police and have you arrested
b) There is a book published with all Swiss cars. it contains the number plates, names and telephone numbers of all the owners. Somebody cuts you p on the road, give them a call and give em hell!

Its expensive and for what you get, over priced. Dont expect to eat/drink anything particularly nice eitehr - unless of coruse you got a lot of cash.

Oh and one final thing, racism is rife.

Lol I'm on my year abroad in switzerland studying in Lausanne. Been to CERN too! Go to villars (next to diablerets). Not much in lausanne tbh although lac leman (lake geneva) is pretty nice. Generally the countryside/mountains/scenery are all good. Go to bern as well.

I've found the people generally nice and helpful.

OT but they do that here in Canada! I couldn't believe it when I saw it. I'm still in the habit of just looking for cars and then crossing when there are none, whether it's at a crossing or not! You got a lot of funny looks when doing this :)

And in the US... the land of the so call "free" where you can get a $50 fine for crossing the road at the wrong place/time.

OT again, but what do you call the railway that runs for miles in Switzeland(generating its own electric by using the brakes) then goes into some glacier that has been cut out into chambers for tourists to walk around.

There was a travel program on it a few months back, but I can't remember the name of the railway or the region.
