System Secuirty - Password Access with No Back Door ?

second that....encryption can be cracked! It just takes many years or the FBI and about 2000000000000000000000000000000000 billion GHz of computing power!

I think how long you get would depend on what they suspected you of in the first place.... but this is still a dogy thread.

What is remotely dodgy about it? Just because you want to secure something makes the protected content of questionable nature?

Everyone uses encryption everyday to protect stuff in transparent ways they never see or here anything about.

They can only lock you up for something they have evidence for which in this case would just be the with holding of the password, what they suspect you have encrypted has no bearing on the punishment given.

Like "95thrifles" said. Your average thief/burglar that you claim to be concerned about is not going to be able to bypass a basic windows logon password. Stick a startup password on it aswel via the BIOS. That's gonna be enough to stop anything accessing your stuff.

I await the "How long will I get for not giving poilce encryption key" thread :D

Obsessed with system security, yet you're not using bsd? Strange times.

The most convincing approach I've come across involves encrypting everything except /boot, which is put on a usb stick. If you don't have that usb stick, you're not getting at the data.

Bear in mind that encryption is worth nothing if someone stole your computer while it was turned on.

it will get sold on ebay cheap as password forgotten, someone will get your data, if you have a stash of GF porn FFS at least stick it in a paaword protected word document or zip folder...!!!

I love some of the replies, this thread has made my day xD And there are plenty of black market places around here, I know a lot of Turkish people in the market that wipe mobiles and crack laptop passwords . . . I don't want to be one of the unlucky ones that have all my stuff hacked into and then I end up finding pictures of my gf online haha.

But seriously I still have account details and personal data on here, I just don't want any potential risks, but no, I get called a Pedo for wanting a hack proof computer!

Glad someone on here has common sense :)

Account details at the age of 19.... comon, you're not a multi millionaire with secret formulas and patents on the computer. Banks have there own fraud detection. With regards to the girlfriend pictures, just stick them in a protected zip folder or even better, store all your personal photos on a pen drive and keep that with you or in a safe place.

My moneys still on pedo patrol :p .... I joke of course.
