Hey guys,
So I posted this in the case section as I thought it may be the Corsair 780t case io section causing zero to happen when I pressed the power button from a cold boot. Since then I found out it wont turn on from the mobo power button either but I swapped kettle leads and it worked...cut to now and the same problem is back.

I still get power to the USB ports but it wont boot up and I'm stumped what the problem could be. When it does turn on it runs fine so I'm guessing the PSU is OK and its the MOBO? My specs are

4770k/h100i
Gigabyte z87x-ud3h
Titan X
Seasonic snow silent 1050w PSU

Does it exhibit the same behaviour outside the case? Could be a case shorting problem.

Havnt had time to get it out the case bud. Whats got me baffled the most is,its more problematic from a cold boot. Yesterday the case power nor the mobo power would get it turned on but once Id swapped kettle leads and plug sockets in the surge protector it turned on and continued to turn on. Switch to this morning and it did the same again. I pressed the power button and it took maybe 10 seconds to turn on followed by failure to boot the next time

Have you tried running it directly from the wall socket?

Once and it booted up but its been all over the place and sometimes boots and sometimes does not. When Ive tried to boot from cold today the power button did nothing then it turned on about 8 seconds later, like a delayed start up?

Any not self powered USB hubs connected to the PC at all?

I know I had an issue like that a few months ago. It worked fine for ages then boom suddenly couldn't turn the computer on anymore. Wasn't until I disconnected a powered USB hub from the pc that it started working again. I put it down to the hub sending electrical interference or something like that.

If the USB devices stay plugged in it could also be checking them before firing up so its waiting for the devices to be ready before it can. Quick boot or something like that in the BIOS should fix that.

What kind of devices are they drives?

Fair point but Ive tried firing it up with nothing attached and it does the same. A pointer may be when I touch the keyboard it usually lights up when the PC is off but it quickly flickers on and off. Its looking more and more like the PSU isn't it? I only bought it in may of this year.

The devices attached are mouse, keyboard and headphones but I don't think they are the cause anyway as it was a delayed boot today but more times than not it wont boot at all. The delayed boot does not happen as often

Update- my headphones lost sound despite being plugged in and lit up so I switched ports and they work again. Ive got it down to either a USB fault on the mobo or the PSU now then I guess

Just thought enabling Quick Boot may stop your keyboard and mouse from starting at boot so prob not a good idea.

Are all the timings and voltages for your ram all set as it states on the manufactures website?

May also be worth checking for BIOS update? It does state something about a USB driver if i remember right.

Did you ever try it outside the case?

Are any of the USB devices plugged into the front USB ports? If so try removing the cable from the mobo and using the rear ones to see if it could be a short from the case and front ports save taking it all out.

I think we have a winner! Left it unplugged last night before I went to work and just tried it from the mains...boots from cold no problem! What a bizarre problem though as once it's running using the surge protector strip it's fine it's just getting it started
