Hi all.

Currently me and the other half have a smart TV that is our main device for streaming media, gaming etc., but for the times where we want to watch different things, or she wants to stream something whilst I'm gaming, she uses her old, falling apart laptop. It's got a decent screen and sound, it just has a broken hinge and the battery sucks.

So I've been looking at tablets for her to watch Netflix and such on. It probably won't be used for much else, maybe some web browsing, basic games, nothing intensive. Just want good 1080p screen, good speakers, and a USB C port ideally. Is 2GB RAM enough? Not too bothered about internal storage as have an SD card I can use.

So far I've looked at the Fire HD10, Huawei T5, both around 120 quid. Then there's the Galaxy Tab A and Huawei M5 Lite at about 180-190. Also the Lenovo M10 but not really bothered about the Alexa stuff so not sure about it. Anything I'm missing, cheap Chinese or lesser known brands? Don't want to spend more than 200, ideally less.

Probably leaning towards the Tab A just because I have other Samsung stuff and have been impressed. Is it good value though?

Any suggestions, thoughts, recommendations? Thanks in advance.

The Wife got a Tab A 10.5 2019 just before Crimbo - it's a really nice bit of kit, and it had the same "One UI" interface from their phones, so great if you are coming form a Galaxy phone. This ticks all your boxes imo.

This. The One UI makes a big difference. It's a good piece of kit for media consumption as it does the basics well.

Is more than 2GB necessary for my use case? Or just a future proofing thing?

Yes and No really - 2 GB is likely fine for some/all of the lightweight stuff you need, but seeing as a lot of phones have 4+ GB of RAM - you might notice it would be a tad laggy. Iirc the Wfie's tab has 3 GB and although I do notice the occasional bit of lag, it is otherwise fine for media consumption (think my phone has 6 GB for reference).
