Morning all

my children currently use my iPad Pro  Just purely to watch the above!

What’s the best tablet we could get them to watch kids YouTube on, and when I Say the best I mean on the cheaper side but robust?

Maybe the amazon fire hd tablet? Something around the £100/£150 bracket

im not 100% sure they can install kids YouTube on an Amazon device but I can read up on that!

Hope we are all staying safe!!

Cheers

Amazon fire doesn't do YouTube kids directly. It has some app over top and it's terrible.

Get a 2nd hand old ipad mini or something to add the YT Kids app directly.

I’ve read you can side load it though? More faff for me though :(

The fire is very good for kids, the parental controls are excellent.
Indeed, and they are good value for what you get plus robust?

Definitely agree with that although my child is 4 and even on aged 6 a lot of the apps presented are really babyish and not as interesting. I think age 4 is a really fickle age as not a toddler but not full fledged child in education yet (he's more than ready for school in September though)

Agreed, my daughter is 6 and son is 5 and they are a handful but lots of fun :)

Should I opt for a cheapish Android tablet, not sure if that is compatible with Kids YouTube I've seen a VANKYO MatrixPad Z4 10.1 inch Android Tablet

Concerned that a second hand iPad might not last that long with my two, albeit I'd put it in a case

My 4 year old can handle her iPad with ease. YouTube Kids app easy to navigate.

Trust me, just get a cheap iPad Mini from somewhere and you'll be sorted for years.

Reading up that probably the best option I guess :)

Thanks

Fire 8 or 7 are perfect for kids. Super easy to sideload gapps and YouTube kids. There is a toolkit on XDA and you plug in, couple of clicks later you are done.

Both my kids have them and have done this to both.

They're super happy with YouTube kids, a selection of apps and Disney+ apps.

Hey there

and kids YouTube plays smooth and works well?

kids YouTube is the main thing they both watch at the moment!

Yup. I can video it so you can see if you need me to.

Initially on the 7inch one I have I have the kids Amazon thing and sideloading to the kids profile didn't work properly. I just used a normal profile, used nova launcher and hid anything I didn't want them to access and then kept bits they could.

Turned off any in app purchasing options etc..

No that’s absolutely fine, I think the fire tablets are more robust than an iPad but I’d be putting them in covers which act as a stand so they can watch it on a table etc!

Appreciate the comments though! ;)

Hmm, i need to look in to this. Nova and hidden sounds better than the in house build.

Morning all

Am I correct in saying that the iPad mini gen 1 won’t have any more iOS platform updates but the apps themselves still get updated?

Seen a few going for £60/£70 on ebay which I guess is all they need for kids YouTube
