bleh, edited the stupidly long-winded story

some fool reversed into my car while i was sitting in it. was quoted £450 to repair the damage.
the fool has offered £400 in cash instead of going through insurance, which i have accepted.

i'd rather use the money for something else atm and get the car fixed at a later date (probably for less), outside norway.

the money doesn't have to be used to repair the damage does it?

Take the £400 then claim through insurance anyway? ;)

i don't even know who he's insured with. the most i got him to do was write his name and "I BACK INTO HE, 13/03/09"

he's (one of) the village idiots. hopefully getting my money on thursday and then i'll leave him be :p

Over here all you need to initiate a claim is the reg number, surely that is the case there too?

Have you got any proof of that? It's just that my gf had a little bump in my car with a moped at sometraffic lights, gave him the reg and name but nothing else because she didn't want any chav abuse at home. Now is being prosecuted for failing to stop and failing to report!

Why would i need proof? Of course you can initiate a claim based on reg number alone, that is the whole point of number plates.

As stated, to initiate the claim all you need is the reg number.

That doesn't excuse you from your legal responsibility to stop and provide full details at the scene of an accident if requested by the other party, it just means that if someone fails to do that there is still a mechanism for you to make a claim.

Sorry about what is happening to your GF, my best advice would be to get a lawyer and see if you can argue the point that since the 3rd party has her name she did indeed stop at the scene. Did the guy on the moped actually ASK for her address?
