So we got our panasonic gx1 yesterday; havn't had much time to fiddle with it; but we plan on going on a holiday to hawaii for 2 weeks.
My wife is into photography (whom camera is pretty much for); Ill prob take a few but I will mostly want to take some movies of stuff 1080i scenery/animals etc...

I'm thinking about purchasing a 64 gig class 10sdxc for our trip ...
do you think this will be enough space?

wondering if I need to be concerned with the card filling up and having a way to get stuff off it to something else ... not sure I want to bring our laptop.

- I could also get 2 32gig class 10s for about the same price as the above; but I think the sdxc is faster in xfer speeds from what I looked at. Any reason to get 2 32s instead of just the 64?

any other advice for the trip? ...

I usually stick with smaller cards and swap them out over the days. Less risk of one card going bad and you loosing all the photos/videos. 16gb give plenty of space even shooting in raw mode so you could just buy 2 or 3.

Even multiple 8GB cards should be enough. On the 450D, you can get over 400 photos on one 8GB card. Spreads the risk even more.
You can get Sandisk 8GB Extreme HD Video cards for £9. Otherwise you can get the 16GB cards for £16.

so do sd cards go bad a lot? ... you guys sure talk about risk/probs with the sd cards ...
Ive had a 4gig on my regular camera for years and no probs - but Im only a casual user.
and ya dont really want to lose all the photos - just thought they would all be in one place and give us a decent capacity.

So is there much difference in the speed say of between a patriot 64gb sdxc as compared to cards you are mentioning? for quality of movies/pics my wife may take?

I've never had one go either but I still use 1 16g and 2 8gig.

Lots of reasons especially on holiday as you may lose the camera have itstolen drop it in the water etc. I would do it over say 5 days then swap it out for another and then 5 days later do it again. That way at most you lose a few days rather than the whole trip or just having oen and losing it or it going wrong after a few days and you are stuffed.

Class 10 16gig ones are less than £20 and should be mroe than enough.

Also spending all that money on a nice camera you may as well be careful, be a shame not to have some great shots from the holiday.

I've had a couple of the supplied ones go bad, but no Sandisk ones. I've also had issues with pictures getting corrupted by going through customs which is pretty weird as I didn't think the xray machines should damage them?

Not had any of my SD cards (3 Transcend, 6 Sandisk) fail on me but there's always that risk there. And all it takes is just that one time and then you think why didn't I just spread the risk?

I think SDXC cards are quite expensive atm? You'll be fine with 8GB/16GB SDHC class 10 cards.

ya talked to my wife about it and she is leaning toward 2 cards also or least more then 1 ... wish they had more benches for the cards.

still may want to get 2 32's thou - btw the mp4 at 1080i is 20mbs write is needed or desired ... like to know what cards come close to that. That samsung does look like a decent one thou at the 16gb.

I have a feeling she might like the raw photo footage but who knows ... wish there were more reviews of the sd cards 32 gb size or something. thanks for that link for the samsung thou may be a option
