I'm getting a set of clubs in the next couple of weeks (they are my dads, he's not able to play any more so I asked if I could have them) and thus decided to take up golf.

However, I suffer from arthritis in my right wrist, knees and feet. How taxing is it on your wrist? Will I feel that I just can't play? I can do most things ok, writing/using computers/carrying my shopping home and things like that but haven't tested it in a sporting role - I wouldn't be comfortable doing weights on it though.

I know that December, in Scotland, probably isn't the best time to take up golf but that's unavoidable. Any tips for me? I was thinking just get down to the driving range and hit a bucket full of balls for a while and see how I get on then at a later date maybe get some lessons?

Take lessons early on if you are serious, otherwise you will just ingrain bad technique which is hard to shift later.
I can recommend "The Swing Factory" as a good start reading wise, get a basic grounding.

I am perfectly healthy, and a long session at the range gives me pains the next day, so I would try a round or something.
