Talk Talk - Please tell me good and bad stuff

Sorry, but they do. I've been checking the call prices to make sure they're not too high.

The only negative I can see with Xilo so far is that there is a cease fee and there would be the cost of reconnecting to BT wholesale, should I wish to.

I don't think you fully understood what I was getting at, or I didn't explain what I mean't clear enough; I was on about included calls, as in a voice bundle. I wouldn't class the ability to make a call and be charged per minute as a "voice service" in my mind, but then again I can see why you said they do as technically you can make a call but get charged per minute :)

I wouldn't worry about the reconnection fee as if you went with TalkTalk you would face the same fee although theirs is 18 months until it's charged at a reduced rate!

Apologies if I came across abrupt, it wasn't intended - tone is hard to convey over the internet :)

If you go with Xilo let me know how you get on, I'd be interested to hear what their CPW service is like.

Before we started to offer this service, I had a line for many months to ensure it was up to the level that we required for our customers.

It's been great and much needed improvement (could only get 8Mb before, but now can sync at 22~Mb down and 1Mb up).

The ability to change profiles, no DLM or profiling is a godsend!

I am with Talk Talk here, *awful* setup process we had with them when they messed up so much because they sold us an LLU service when we couldn't get it in our area then everything else was wrong too. Wrong price on the bill, wrong phone plan, wrong broadband service (they charged us £15 a month for the ADSL), and they also were very slow to get the ADSL up and running, they couldn't give us a live date either.

Eventually though we got on the ADSL, LLU became available, and I believe we're now getting and paying for what we expect. I get 2.5-3mbps on the LLU service here but it's a long line, we're 2-3Km from the exchange and that seems to be roughly what others get in our area as well.

Service has actually been OK, no connection drop outs really, and the speed we get is solid enough. I play a lot of games and the only latency I get is when my wireless signal drops too low, which isn't really a problem where we have the router situated at the moment.

Negatives:

Bad customer service. As others have said use the TalkTalk members forums for anything even remotely technical relating to your ADSL.

Poor setup experience

Long contract (18 months).

Over on another forum their are some wholesale providers that use the talk talk network but they manages their own bandwidth ect ect and they seem to be getting some good feedback on the forums.

TitanADSL & Vivaciti

Plus does have traffic shaping, its clever (or not) marketing as they dont consider shaping a restriction as you can still use it (with lower speed).

Yeah its not a restriction, it just restricts your ability to use it ^^ I love how ISP's can do stuff like this and the unlimited connections (which don't have a limit, they have a usage cap, its different :P) just because they have an expensive legal team to defend them.

LLU is far superior to ADSL.

LLU is ADSL, I assume your comparing LLU to IPstream or Datastream?, in any case your connection is only as good/bad as your ISP.

I'm with Opal - the business division of Talk Talk.
I don't get such a great deal on phone calls, however I use my mobile for everything these days.
The main reason for going via Opal was that they claimed no traffic shaping and I get a static IP.

I get 18mb down and more or less 1mb up.
I'm tied into a longish contract, however as they are my only LLU option where I live....

Cannot complain, even when they messed up CallerID they fixed it after one two minute phone call.

OK. what I mean is Talk's LLU offering is three times faster for me than Sky's connect or many others who use BTs infrastructure.

right, my exchange is supposedly enabled for LLU with CPW (carphone warehouse) but no-one seems to offer LLU services. Strange. Could be tempted if someone actually knew if and when they'd offer an apparently long time enabled service!

Which exchange? (or exchange code)

Edit.. If it's Welshpool, this could be why:

WELSHPOOL (WNWPL) Limited Availability 19/10/2010, TalkTalk are planning increased capacity at this exchange and are awaiting a date for its installation

Is this one of those scenarios where the LLU capacity is full?

The Welshpool exchange is listed as having "Limited Capacity" - usually you can order a new line when it has this status but you could experience network congestion at peak times. The Exchange Status page isn't live data so it could well have a status of "Exchange Full" but hasn't updated yet which means you couldn't get a new LLU connection - you could give TalkTalk sales a call and ask :)

Note: All info above is nearly word-for-word copy and pasted from one of the OCE's at the TalkTalkMembers forums

Im on 3mbit as its all my line supports. I would rather have a reliable 2mbit service than talktalks slightly faster but 50% of the time unreliable service. Most of the issue is with their DNS servers. So i have to use opendns but i dont like doing so due to privacy issues.

Do you have any information regarding privacy issues with OpenDNS? Their Privacy Policy seems OK and I bet your ISP is recording far more than OpenDNS do. Another alternative is Google Public DNS (8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4) but I trust OpenDNS more than Google :p

Also, BE, who are regarded as being one of the best ISP's have possibly the worst DNS servers known to man - I wouldn't judge an ISP based on how great their DNS servers are!

From what I've read, calling talk talk isn't a good idea! :p

Haha, I genuinely done a facepalm with a small lol - nice one :D

Well, my CPW LLU service from Xilo got activated today so I thought I would post the results..........

I think it's fair to say that I'm very pleased with that, especially considering the fact that I was given an estimated speed of 16Mb/s. :D One thing I did wonder was whether the ping was any good?

I'd also like to add that the guys at Xilo have been nothing but an absolute pleasure to deal with so I can certainly recommend their services.

Off to set up the ftp server on my NAS now that I have a static IP. :)

Default profile is interleaved at 12db.

I am sure we could get that down to 6db/Fast to give more speed and latency.. but give it a few days first and maybe raise us a ticket Monday for a performance profile.
