Talk to me about a adoption

So first a little info.

I met my wife when she was 6 months pregnant with her first child, when she was born i have treated her as my own from day one (Father didn't want to know and has not been intouch since he found out she was pregnant)

Now we are married and also have a son together.

So the next step i/we would like to take is too adopt her daughter, so far all we have done is change her surname when we got married to mine.

So what i would like to know is where do i start? Do i have to request some type of form to get the ball rolling?

Is it a long proccess?

She is now 2 years old if that makes any differance.
