Hi

Just wanted some advice on TalkTalk LLU services my area got upgraded this month and the only LLU service I can get is TalkTalk which will give me speed between 18-24 meg

Im currently using Zen internet and getting 10meg with a download limit of 100gb which suits me fine

If I go with TalkTalk LLU will I get decent amount of speed and will I get any download limit or is it best to avoid TalkTalk?

Ive used TalkTalk before many years ago when I had the Phone & broadband package and had quite a few problems with them but im only after the LLU broadband package so will I come across any problems with them?

I was on TalkTalk's LLU service for nearly 2 years (I only recently switched over to Sky as it was cheaper) and if you don't mind using their forums for support (the telephone support is not even worth calling) then they are great. I never ran into problems with the Exchange being overloaded and always got what I synced at - it's also truly unlimited (if you go for the Pro package) and you get the benefit of a possibly increased download rate (if your Exchange isn't WBC enabled at the moment) from switching over to an ADSL2+ network.

Anyway, it boils down to if you can put up with the lack of telephone support. The forum support is really quite good, it may take ~24hrs for a reply but it actually gets sorted first time. Zen on the other hand have fantastic support, if you've never used it then I doubt you will miss it. For how much cheaper TalkTalk is I'd say go for it :)

When taking it out in your local CPW they will do a check with Talk talk to advise of estimated speeds.

Your download limit on the Essentials package is 40GB, I believe talk talk do charge if you go over it.

Set up fee is you are moving from another provider is £30, If you are getting a new line installed. It's free.

The LLU essentials package works out at 20.30 a month inc VAT.

If it is LLU you don't need a MAC code, which is also handy.

The support imo isn't too bad, but when customers come in I haven't got much of a chance to experience it as they always ask for them to be in their house and not in store.

Any other questions please ask. I work in CPW so will do my best to answer any other questions, however I am not specialised in Telco.

EDIT: you can get a bolton for a download booster which boosts your download to 80GB, think its about 4 quid.

Thanks for the reply guys

Have to agree with you Kona I find Zen Customer support fantastic only used them a few times and can’t fault them at all

The LLU essentials package wont work for me due to having steam and games around 8-12gig would soon use up 40gig

but if you can top it up for a few quid then maybe could suit me fine

The pro package is it truly unlimited though? I know some ISPs run a fair policy use which is fine as ill only be using it for steam so if I can get steam games downloaded without any problems would suit me fine and the speed increase would be nice from 10meg to 18-24 meg

Guess the only thing really putting me off is the whole 12 month contract of being stuck with TalkTalk

Just one question though can I just select the broadband package only?

But having a quick read maybe cheaper to get the broadband/phone package and having the 50% off for 12 months works out quite cheap

Yeah I think it is to the best of my knowledge, however it is 14.99 + your 13.60ish line rental a month.

No you have to take the phone line, thats all you payfor and your internet is free. Well so to speak.

TalkTalk have more complaints than any other ISP - I'd probably look at stopping with Zen for a while longer, if TT have put in LLU in your exchange, the rest will follow shortly! Then you can make a decision out of your options instead of being stuck in a 12-months contract. In my exchange, TT enabled first and we only had to wait 2 months for Sky to be enabled which in my mind is a much better service (bear in mind we have Sky tv and this reduces the cost)

Right ive just spoke to Sky and checked the website and it seems im able to get 18-24 meg on the sky unlimited package

samknows website is showing that talktalk (installed 22/08/2011) is the only LLU service in my area

So does that mean that samknow has not been updated yet? Little confused

Well i'm on a 24mb talk talk unlimited package and it sucks ... They promised me 15mb ADSL2+ will be my min speed and reality it syncs at 8mb and real speed is 7.2mb download. Their support is a total nightmare and not once have they replied why I can't register on their support forums, it says the account I have is not a talk talk account .. funny how I get billed by Talk talk.. and minute I registered with them the spam/sales calls started (even when I told them I don't want any sales calls when I registered and on their account web form I disabled all types of sales calls and asked for the number to be exdirectory from day one).. everyday for weeks we would get call centres in india and other countries calling if we want to buy this and that or upgrade this and that at all hours of the day and night.. one call was even at 6.30am and one as late as 11.30pm. Stay clear i'm waiting for the 18 month contract to end to tell them to go jump. Don't believe their speed tests on your line and don't believe the sales people on their phones 110% liars, they will lie to the point of telling you that you have a magic line at your house and the people next door to you on talk talk have a slow connection because they have old phone lines.. funny how the houses are both new builds with same age lines... Only one good thing really is unlimited downloads and the minute they complain about me being silly on my downloads I will have all the reasons to see them in court. After me and my partner complained to their customer care line.. only thing they did was give us free international calls to the package to certain countries.. im paying £27.50 a month for 24mb ... but getting 8mb and their sorry was to give me a £3 a month feature for free that we use maybe once in 6 months and never use the house phone because we both have mobile phones (you must have the phone line to get the ADSL package). seriously.. 7 months left of my contract with them ... and bye bye .. ohh and the people that lived at this address before had sky broadband and they had 16mb download fine on the same line.. So explain to me why talk talk can't get the same speeds ?.. All you will hear from them is sorry sorry on the phone and nothing gets done.. I was at them for 6 months solid to get it resolved and still same 11 months later. if you want stress free internet go with someone else if you can mate.

It's possible. Sam Knows is often out of date. Sky LLU is pretty damn awesome!

yup, Sky LLU is pretty damn good...I'd take them over TalkTalk anyday...

I've just moved to Sky LLU and would NOT have it over TalkTalk.

DLM has stuck me on G.992.2 (G.lite) which has a maximum download speed of 2048kbps (which I sync at) and they can't get it unstuck from that, even if they change me to ADSL2+ or G.DMT it still puts me on G.lite - according to two different CST's their equipment doesn't even support G.lite so they have no idea why it's happening. Another phone call being made today, sigh.

well for one who'd take talktalk I know another 100 who wouldn't! They don't have the reputation for being the worst broadband supplier in the UK for nothing....including several huge fines for overcharging and billing, and having the worst telephone support in the business. Sorry for your bad experience Kona* and hope they get it sorted because I'm sure you'll enjoy it when it is...

I've been using Talk Talk LLU now for almost two years and it has been excellent.
However I have NOT had to contact their support.

I'm on their business service, so I get a static IP and priority traffic.
I get around 14mb/1mb and in the two years I've been using them I've had about an hours worth of outages.

Cannot comment on their actual customer service as I'm very self-sufficient and just don't need them.

exactly stoofa - they're fine when all is rosy, but not so good when there is a problem. Mind you, most suppliers are rather like that! Problem with TalkTalk is that you appear to be in the minority regarding your good experience...

ive been on talk talk for a year and a bit at home and nearly 2.5 years at my mums work place, never had any problems at all, im getting good speed too

Been a talk talk user for about 18 months, never had any significant outages sync at a nice stable 16mb and speeds are fine.

Any support I've needed I've always used the TalkTalk Forums and had my issues resolved.

My only other LLU option on my exchange is Orange.

Recently swapped my folks over to TalkTalk LLU also, previously there were getting 2.5mb from BT (non LLU) moved to TalkTalk and now they sync at 11mb. Only issue with the swap over was cause by the Openreach engineer messing up the moving of lines from BT hardware to TT hardware.

I would happily recommend them as long as your able to cope with the iffy support when needed.
