Tamron 17-50 now arrived

Congrats; why so cheap?

Japanese import.
Tamron lenses come with a worldwide guarantee (which I used with my 28-75), so I have no issues with it being sourced from it's home country.

Can this lens be bought anywhere in Europe or the US?

I refuse to believe that a lens this good is so hard to get :(

ill be interested to know how you get on with this lend as its one im considering.

where did you come across it so cheap? cant find them on ebay or the usual places.

How much do you think they will sell for in this country?

A quick peek at a japanese store shows them for sale at around £210, while a peek at a Hong Kong store shows them for sale at £206 - while the US B&H is around £250.

The lens was delivered by a friend of mine who bought it cheap in Japan (brand new).

I'll try to get a couple of examples up shortly. Initial findings seem to be rather positive. It's a similar weight to the 28-75 that I already have, and appears to be even sharper.
Not so sure about the focusing. Does seem to hunt a little, so on fast targets, might not be the optimum solution.

Here's a shot from earlier this evening:

With a little more editing, should look rather interesting.

Any more news on this lens?

I've contacted a company in the UK that has it listed on its website, but they have no delivery date :(

I take it that shot is 17mm wide as it feels quite curved
can make things interesting though
however, with another look it could just be due to the pic, the sky doesn't seem distorted. need another pic :)
