Im quite lucky that i dont tend to get many as im ex-directory and have "anonymous caller rejection". Today however Kwick fit called 10 times(i was in bed for 9 of them after nighshift). I answer the phone and they say" i see your car insurance is about to expire", me " erm no", kwickfit "oh when then" me "may next year", kwick fit "shall we call you nearer to the time then", me " if you want", KWIKFIT " when would be good" me " well you could try in may".........doh. 10 times is what i call a bit excesive

Any idea how they managed to get through the caller-rejection? Sounds a bit odd.

I worked in an outbound call centre, which described its function as "warm calling" (they got numbers from other companies), and they deliberately allowed their number to go through to avoid calls being automatically blocked.

it is now regulation to send a CLI on outbound calls.

Oh im registered with that too

Well tell them that by calling you they are breaking the law. Everytime I mention the TPS to a caller, (of which I have had significantly less since joining) they run a mile when you mention it. :)

there are ways around this, one of which is to pre tick (or untick in some cases) those boxes that a lot of people forget about. If you allow your details to be passed on, they will be passed on.

Yes, but 99% of the callers when you tell them you are TPS registered will apologise and hang up immediately regardless of what you may have ticked or unticked.

I can't remember the last time I had a cold call, TPS rocks.

Very rarely do we get idiots selling us conservatories/broadband connections/scaffolding/breast enlargement now :D It takes like a month after registering with TPS for them to properly quieten down, though.

Unless it's just coincidence that after a monthish registering with that website, the calls stopped... :p We would get 5-15 calls a day from different companies. Now we probably get 1 a week, which is a vast improvement :)

Who/what does this apply to?

All big companies as far as I am aware. I work for a medical insurance company (only for another 8 days, woohoo) and any outbound calls we do cannot be annonymous. I only have to call current members though so no cold calling.

From what I understand, TPS only applies to UK calls. So the damn calls from India are exempt.. as far as I know anyway.. could be wrong..

We've been we've TPS for years and don't get any UK cold calls but overseas is a different matter.

It is a pity you can't get rid of them at work, I must get 10-15 a day selling stuff, and when you are in IT, its everything from CRM systems to print solutions.

Under principal I will not buy or entertain anyone what so ever selling via cold calling, I don't care if it is the best thing ever invented, I DON'T WANT IT..

Rant over! :)

It's always fun to demand to speak to the boss of any cold caller and enquire how they got my ex-directory number and why they ignored the fact that I'm registered with the TPS. They panic and stammer every time when I say that I will be reporting them. Revenge is sweet.
