Tell me about Mini Coopers !

As I said on the previous page, they are expensive for what they are, which are dinky little pads.

The brake pads on my pedal bike cost more than the ones on my Mini, I honestly don't understand what you're going on about.

To make this game easy could you tell us how much you paid, and how much you think you should've paid.

I think the game has already been overcomplicated. You've asked me for a figure when I said a couple of posts ago that I didn't have an exact figure in mind - and that if I did, I'm sure someone could better it.

My point is that Mini brake pads are tiny and in the instance I came into contact with them, they cost more than that of other cars, which use regularly sized pads. They cost more money for less material, which in my view makes it a premium.

Now before we all go getting giddy over the brake pads again (I feel we're swamped down here slightly), I understand that my case could be a fluke, that in fact Mini brake pads are only 10p for an axle set.

However, my main point is that owning a Mini could (and I did use the words 'not sure' in my original post) equate to higher running costs, due to the relationship with BMW. I really didn't think it was that controversial.

I'm sorry to hear you got ripped off. Did you pass the overcharge onto your customer or did you swallow the fact you were not able to buy brake pads for a half decent price?

I swallowed the fact I wasn't able to buy brake pads for a half decent price. Then I got drunk and charged seven hundred pounds for the copper grease I put on them, so I made up the loss through that route.

Admittedly naive on the brake pad front (they were rears actually), but not so much on the copper grease.

I love them. I actually have the opportunity to buy a really good one from someone I know, but it's going to sit around for two years while I'm at uni. I'm still tempted though. Then I think I may aswell get an S as soon I finish uni, I'll be old enough to insure one then :p

They are really really small inside, only 2 people and maybe a can of coke

What do you mean? You can only have two people in the rear, there isn't a middle seat. I'd say there's sufficient space in the back to get two 'adults' in, anyone upto around 5 ft 9 should be comfortable. Any taller would depend on how tall the driver and front seat passenger is.

Look close at the extras, a lot don't have AC, something I'd have expected to be standard on it. Try get one with xenons, really sets the look of the Mini off. Go for Chilli pack.

Give it a good test drive and check for sounds in and around the dashboard, I know two people who's were a nightmare, it creaked like mad all the time. Check the electrics too there was an issue of the brake lights constantly staying on even with the car off and doors locked.

Luckily the one I'm getting is well specced up, sat nav, chilli, climate, vis pack, full lounge leather, MFSW, parking etc etc

Won't be long before it looks like this ;)

Less is more :p

The one thing I wish they continued onto the R56 is the Chrono Pack (or indeed dual pods in conjunction with satnav)
Using the digital readout for MPH on the rev counter is annoying if you want to show something else.

I must admit, I've never really paid any attention to the new mini. What are they comparable to in terms of capability?

Merc S Class.

You must know all about the Mini as you claimed at one point the Corsa VXR was the best car for the money, this wouldnt be a statement you could make without knowing about the Mini, given its position in the market..

Have a word with Kostas I mean erm Scooby-DoobyDoo something or other on here, His brother has a tuned one I think.. Goes seriously well.

The Mini never really appealed to me at the point at which I bought the VXR, It has never particularly appealed aesthetically and I test drove the 207GTi with the same engine and it was plainly boring (in terms of power delivery etc.). From the sounds of it, the old supercharged engine was a bit more fun.

I just want to know what the older models compare to.

Well they compare to <insert name of 2002-2006 hot hatchback here>. So Clio 182 et al.

The 207 was dire, the fact you drove a 207 and used it to dismiss the Mini is hilarious but not unexpected.

No, the engine in the 207, which is the same as in the Mini, was enough for me to dismiss the Mini once added to my already low opinion of it (based on aesthetics and image, mostly).

The engine in the Mini is hardly a world away from that in the Corsa VXR, is it!? Besides, the same engine can feel different depending on the car its used in...
