My friend has just got a new job in Leeds, he currently lives in Sheffield. So for the time being, he is going to commute every day (probably until summer).
He currently owns a Renault Clio (about an P reg I think) which isn't in the best shape, and will be murder for any distance.
He has seen a Colt that is being sold by one of his work colleagues (click) and has asked for my opinion. When he said that he was going to commute, my first thought was "Mondeo", but he has been offered this, and as he will only be commuting for 6 months or so, I didn't know if this was a better idea.
So OcUK motors, whats the general consensus on these?

Had 1 of these but in diesel form as a hire car in Spain for 2 weeks. Cheap and plasticky (sp?) inside but it does the job and for some reason all 3 of kids loved it as it was nice and spacious in the back for such a small thing.

The model I had was probably a base model so was quite noisy inside the cabin, being diesel obviously didn't help but in Spain it didn't really matter.

Seem's a bit much for a commuter car? Does he have a P reg clio out of choice? If he is skint or would rather use the money on something else? A shopping trolley will be cheaper to run.

The clio is actually his first car (he's 24) and got it because his mums friend was selling it cheap. It did it's job for the past year or so, but needs something a little better. And no, he's not skint (not rich either though)

Yup, guy in here had a Colt 1.3 for a week, and ended up buying the CZT..

The cabin material quality is very low rent, it just feels really cheap, the engines are noisy and intrusive, the paint is thinner then doley's roll up, and the external grille plastics weren't very robust..

It drove OKish, a bit thrashy on the motorway (the 1.3), the 1.5 would have to be considerably better if long term commuting was being considered..

All in all, certainly not my cup of tea, he and I actually preferred the Smart Fourfour which was the same car with a much better interior and overall better matierial/build quality..

He only went for the CZT due to money, the 'turbo' and I assume temporary insanity..

Had the 1.1 version for 2 weeks (Hire Car)
Inside was just nasty, all plastic and large, like it was designed as a childs toy, and the road noise was quite high.

But it was quite comfy, I found the seating position very high, but nice.

Edit: Oh it is also damn ugly

Nice and safe I can tell you that, less than 500 miles on this one I stacked on the motorway.

Looks bad but the interior was completely untouched and the doors opened like normal.
