Well I've been out of the loop for the last 3 years now, so am not really up to scratch with the current flow of technology. That's what university did to me anyway.
So to get to the point, I'd say I am allocating about a grand to spend on a new machine, although that budget is a bit flexible if need be.
I'll need everything, case and all, apart from a monitor (2407FPW), mouse, keyboard and speakers.

I wouldn't say i am heavily into gaming, as the only game I am into at the moment is WoW, but that might change soon.

So to get us going I was thinking something along the lines of an E6600 and an BFG GeForce 8800GTS ("Future proof"?) for starters.

Cheers in advance guys. :)

It's way overbudget but it's a very slick rig that will remain slick for quite some time. :)

Cheers very much Billy.
I did say my budget was flexible.
But anyway...
So we can easily slash 100 quid by opting for a Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3?
What would be the major effect on the system?

Oh and, sound card? I'm not really a big music buff so an onboard will do me fine I think. Hmm i answered my own question.

You could do that as the DS3 is an excellent board but my idea was to use an nVidia chipset so that you could have the option of running SLi in the future. If you are sure you're not interested in SLi the DS3 would be a fine choice.

keep the 680i mobo, slash money by getting a artic freezer pro7 and getting the lian li pc7! And a 250gb 7200.1 barracuda instead. That will save bout £80

These are fine options. The savings would be exactly £83.41 after taxes and shipping.

EDIT: I assume you mean the 7200.10. I just corrected this as to not confuse anyone. ;)
