Tell me why I shouldn't get City Life....

SimCity 4 just looks so rubbish though.

Do you really think so ?

Looks fine to me, 3d will ruin it by making it look cartoony...

Dont think sc4 has a demo.

It just looks too grainy by todays standards. I do admit that most strategies that initially converted to 3d were ropey but take World in Conflict as an example of a 3D strategy, it's awesome. Someone has to make a 3D city builder that works, it's the rules.

It just looks distorted because of the isemetricness.

and I bet if you zoomed in it'd look crap.

I'm borrying Societies from my mate so I'll see how it goes.

are there plans for SC5 anytime soon?

It does.

Good luck getting it to run. Even if you do it will probably crash after about an hour. It's a huge bug that the developers are working on. Even after all that, if you can run the game successfully, you'll probably find it simplistic/boring.

I hope so but not to my knowledge. We need one badly.

it seems to run fine, and I'm using 64-bit vista.

The camera movement is very jerky though.

but in what way is the gameplay better? there don't seem to differ in gameplay that much.

Are you kidding?
City life is a game for a kid.
SC4 is a simulator.

Show me where in city life you can have more than simple traffic problems, the only thing I can recall is single roads being clogged... In sc4, you can follow just about any traffic from where to where and how, every piece of road has a diff congesiton, u have to use public transport etcetc...
In sc4 you have water pollution, air pollution, noice lvl.
In sc4 there are thousands of mods.
In sc4 you have power, water, different jobs, caps, desireabilty, etc...

The diff with city life is that sc4, grows.
City life is just plop and done.

Tbh I'd try them both see wich you like.
Sc4 is more for people that prefer a hard game. It is pretty poor also without mods.
City life is more casual, city life does have very carppy traffic problems, all you can do is upgrade a road tbh and there's no real system in why it's clogged up.

Well with grows I mean, in city life you plop down everything, in sc4 you plant a zone, that grows itself depending on many factors after that...
You could get some poor suburb devellopment and at the same time you can get big villa's and condo's...

Another vote for SC4 from me. IMO the graphics are not dated by any means and is still one of the most engrossing games I've ever played. Don't judge a book by it's cover, is all I'm saying.

what kind of mods are available for SC4?

Swing on over to Simtropolis and they have legions of them.

Interestingly enough, the developers of the city life sequel are on simtropolis all the time asking for advise on what they did wrong and what the fans would like to see. After EA so royally screwed us Simcity fans with Societies, the chaps from Monte Cristo seemed to have listened and the new game is looking fantastic. Might be an idea to wait for that.

when you say new game, are you talking about City Life 2008 edition?

No, that's an updated version of a current game. Cities Unlimited is currently under development and promises to be the ultimate city sim.
