Im looking at a car on Wednesday with a view to buying it, so need to arrange some temporary cover to give it a drive.

Phoned up my company (elephant) and they wouldnt cover me unless i was the owner/registered keeper (or at least thats what i could gather) which obviously i wont be, but if i bought the car then i could transfer over at a cost of £160 for the remainder of my policy and insure my current car temporarily for 1 week (£10) or two weeks for £16.

Not sure why i couldnt just tag the car i want to view on my main policy for a similar price but there you go!

Only problem is most companys tend to have a good laugh, im 20, 0ncb 0 license and the cars modified and group 17. But the car looks too good to miss so planned on buying it and just waiting 6-7 weeks till its renewal time and its a lot cheaper as im 21/1ncb/1license and im getting quoted sensible amounts.

Anyone else i can try who are good?

Cant you insure it under a parents name and add you as a named driver?
For a week? Im more interested in companys specialising in short term cover than slightly dubious methods of insuring it. :)

So you need cover for a test drive??

Either find a way of getting DOC cover, or get a trusted friend with DOC to test fro you, or alternatively do what *most* people do on test drives and simply take the chance (awaits flaming, but we all know it happens 99% of the time!)

You need something like http://www.dayinsure.com but with them you need to be 21, which is a bummer... although it does say 25 for higher IG.

DOC cover would probably be no good either as I'm sure the owner of the car would like you to be FC.

I suppose your only option would either be to either test drive the vehicle with no insurance or to let the owner drive it... neither is preferred.

OR... as insurance companies have a 14 day cooling off perioid... why not take out insurance on the car, test drive it... and then cancel afterwards. :p

Should be pretty obvious from the minute i get in if anythings fubared or not really, its another rover so i know what im getting myself in for at least! :D

Only need to make sure nothing knocks/bangs and the gearbox isnt whining like a ho, but driving it myself is preferential.
