Went to see Tenacious D at the Manchester Evening News Arena earlier this evening. The gig was enjoyable enough and the band seemed to be on form, however one thing spoiled the experience for me - there were absolutely no large screens showing the gig whatsoever.

Not a big issue you might think, however we were seated on the top tier towards the back of the arena and could hardly make anything out on stage. Therefore the lack of big screens showing the action really detracted from what was an otherwise enjoyable gig as we just couldn't make out exactly what was going on.

Has anyone else experienced this before? The last few arena gigs I've been to have all had the screens up and I think it's a poor showing that this one didn't, especially taking into account the £25 ticket cost. Do you think it would be worth mailing a complaint through to the M.E.N Arena at all?

Every time I've been to a gig at the M.E.N. they've always had the screens. The best use of stage, sound, arena, lights and screen, by far, was by Rammstein. Oh myyyy, what a wonderful experience. I was like a Donkey smoking crack and pushed into a massive arena of noise.

WOOOOAHHHHHH! WEEEEEEE! WOOOOOOWW! :p :D

The screeens were the *only* thing ?

What about that "comic" support act -- Neil Hamburger ?

His "act" illicited groans and boos at the SECC ... even at the end of the gig when Jack Black was thanking everyone and named Neil :)

Went to see Kasabian on Monday night at the MEN. They had two large screens either side of the stage - not that it mattered as I was standing which was sweet :D

Some of the seating was pretty decent I thought. A couple of the girls had seats on the lower tier by the side which were good. Saying that I don't think I'd ever buy seated tickets for a gig anywho!

My main gripes was the complete lack of beer! Massive queues though they did have some guys walking round with tanks on their backs but they ran out after like 3 customers as people were buying 5/6 at a time.

Oh and having a gig in December with no cloakroom available for the standing section was an utter joke. (Luckily we just gave our jackets to the girls who put them on their seats).

I'm defo not a fan of the MEN but it was an absolutely awesome set that they did

Edited - Corrected some TERRIBLE English (Still pretty bad but who cares :p)

it's part of the touring rig rather than anything to do with the venue (unless the venue didnt have room for them ofc - not the case here), very few artists dont have big screens and those that do will always attract complaints, if you do want to complain about it i'd suggest writing direct to the promoter, who i think was sjm but i cant check at the moment, it will say on your ticket

TTT - the beer issue is due to the crowd really, kasabian will of been a heavier drinking crowd than most, the major tom people (with the kegs on their backs) cant carry much obv, but it is something like 30 pints, and there's normally about 6-10 of them and the bar on the ground floor. The bars up on the concourse will always be quieter, there's 7 of them for not that many more people

Whether or not a cloakroom provided is normally a tour promoters decision, as there is no specific cloakroom, and we have to lose space for something else, and provide more staff for it (more expense to the promoter) there should have been a bag park by customer services
personally i'd never wear anything i couldnt tie round my waist to a gig

Do you work at the MEN by any chance? :p (If so what doing out of interest?)

Yer fairy 'nuff I can completely understand and it is a great venue for majority of events but as you said, for the likes of Kasabian there are different priorities involved ;)

Still miffed about the cloakroom though :p

Ah I see, no checks or searches at Kasabian was quite surprising! Good though :o :D

Just got back from the Birmingham one - no screens there either.

Gig was awesome though :)

I'm seeing them Monday at the Hammersmith Apollo, hope there are screens as I'm seated  .

Just thought it day i saw Dragonforce at the Bristol Carling Academy on tuesday, they absolutely rocked my **** off.

Hehe i just got back aswell :D awesome lol but yea no screens was a downer :/

Same but we were to the left of the stage in the seating and our view was pretty good.

That support act was truly bad though, best part of his act was when a few of the coins hit him from the audience.

I saw them in brumingham too last night, shame about the lack of screens i was pretty close to the stage in seating but the hanging speakers at the side of the stage obscured bits at times

not that it matters much i still really enjoyed the entire thing

I saw the gig last night at the front of the seating to the left of stage. Great fun to see them with a full band this time (even though I've really enjoyed the gigs when it's just the two of them).

Lee was brilliant & really added to the show - he pulled off Dave Grohl's Satan part superbly. An excellent band as well - Colonel Sanders on drums, Charlie Chaplin on bass & the anti-christ on guitar!! (Disclaimer: Not the real one's!!) :D

I know I was close to the stage, but I'm kind of glad they didn't have a big screen - we're too reliant on that sort of thing these days. It was nice just to have a traditional stage set.

I went with my cousin last night (he posts here too).

It was fantastic.

It wasn't a gig at all, it was a comical entertainment show. It was just excellent. I was laughing all the way through.

Lee was very funny. His crazy dance moves had me in stitches.

Neil Hamburger was annoying, his "Jackson 5" joke raised a chuckle though, as did when people started pelting him with coins.

Just all round ROCKED!

We were in standing, around 15m back from the stage. With the "normal" people, not the moshers and goths :p
