Terraria - Dig, fight, explore, build

I've been playing in SP for a bit now and ended up in full gold armour with gold pick and a war axe of the night from the bits EoC dropped. I've found 400hp and have about 80 mana as well.

Where do I go now? Digging straight down too deep seems to get me killed pretty quick :D and I can't pick through some of the blocks in the corruption.

At the moment I'm in a similar position and I'm using dynamite to blast through the corruption to get to the shadow orbs. Once I've whacked three of those and killed the Eater of Worlds I'll be making Nightmare picks!

You found some difficulty with two people? Solo ***!

That was a lie, he found it difficult cos he only had a Phoenix Blaster with full Molten armour. I had my Molten Fury and Phoenix Blaster with full Necro armour and was using obsidian skin/regeneration/hunter/archer/water walking potions. He also died 5 seconds before we killed it :p

The only hard part with that boss is getting the landscape ready tbh. Doing it without paving over the lava even if you use obsidian skin/water walking can be awkward, especially if you don't make sure the path is clear first.

It seems like high knockback melee or ranged weapons are the way forwards in early hard mode. Not to mention you should avoid underground Hallowed like the plague. Those Chaos Elementals are so annoying, teleporting all over the place then appearing behind/on top of you. The warping enemies online makes it even worse.

I imagine the intended progression is Surrface --> Underground --> Eye of Cthulhu --> Corruption --> Eater of Worlds --> Meteor/Jungle --> Dungeon --> Floating Islands --> Hell --> Hardmode --> Bosses. Since defeating the EoC gives you access to Purification Powders from the Dryad which lets you power through corrupted blocks. Jungle gives you access to some powerful melee weapons, magical gear and Ivy Whip. Dungeon gets you the golden keys and shadow keys needed to unlock chests and a range of decent items.

I managed to kill it on my first go using the demon scythe and shadow armor (not ideal for magic). It took about 20 healing potions I think, and quite a few mana potions. Used grav pots to avoid lava, and killed the boss about 1 third/half the way through the underworld.

Spent about 4 hours last night looking for adamantite, only finding one stack of it. Spent 15-20 minutes in the UJ, and found almost 3 stacks of adamantite. Just got my angel wings and also found the tinkerer.

What order would you rank Skeletron Prime, The Twins and The Destroyer in terms of difficulty? With 1 being the hardest of the three, and 3 being the easiest of the three. Thinking of giving them a bash solo :D

I would say:
1 Skeletron Prime
1 The Twins
2 The Destroyer

Well yes it does kinda depend on how prepared you are. My first attempt on solo I got him down to half before getting hit too much and getting stuck and I didn't bother checking out the landscape at all. Not that I'd call spending 20 minutes fighting it an easy fight.

The best luck we've had is the roof of hell. Not checked the jungle at all actually, might go have a look. But if you use Spelunker Potions and fly along the roof of hell or simply mine across you can find lots of ore it seems. I need to lay out a batch of each ore encased in dirt, should make it easier to tell which ore is which since I keep getting it wrong when I'm out mining. One of the reasons why the roof of hell seems so good for it, very few other ores around.

The Destroyer is by far the easiest, it just has a ridiculous amount of hp. You really need a fast firing ranged weapon of any kind, preferably piercing or loaded with Holy Arrows/Crystal Bullets and to make sure you take care of the Probes before they overwhelm you. So long as you don't take direct hits from the body itself and keep moving you can keep damage to a minimum.

Skeletron Prime is hit n miss. First time I attempted to kill off the ranged arms first which is a giant waste of time. The arms are such small targets (and have 6k and 7k hp) that its much quicker to just focus on the head. It only has 30k and when it gets spikes and starts spinning its a really easy target. You definitely want any fast projectile ranged weapon for that. So long as you keep moving, avoid the arms when you can and don't run into the spiked head (it hits for around 80 even with 40-50def) it might be the easiest to take it down if you focus fire the head.

The Twins it depends. The laser eye is weak as hell. Its laser doesn't do much damage and when it goes below half health its next stage is no harder, just keep moving and it'll probably miss every shot. Its the cursed flamethrower eye thats the problem. Once you get it below half health it moves fast enough to keep pace even at full Hermes Boots run speed and fires a constant flamethrower which kills you VERY fast, when its not doing that it attacks you the same way the EoC does, only moving incredibly fast which makes dodging its flamethrower when its done even harder.

So if I had to give them numbers.
Skeletron Prime = 3
Destroyer = 1 or 2 solo, 3 with multiple players (because 80k hp is a LOT)
Twins = 1

What weapons have you been using against them? I traded my star cannon to somebody for some materials for my statue, all of the decent stuff that I have left is being worn by my character. :p

I've got a laser rifle, demon scythe and clockwork assault rifle with which to try to kill the destroyer. Think they will be enough?

Clockwork Assault Rifle is by far your best bet. Laser Rifle is good since it penetrates but you'll just run out of mana and you need to keep moving. Demon Scythe... its damage is pretty high. Could be worth firing every time you regen to full mana, specially if you can hit the boss multiple times. Otherwise just go auto-fire with Crystal Bullets. They tend to hit multiple times, specially if you aim it at a cross-over point where he's gone through himself.

The hellevator we have is great for mining crystals. You just slowfall with the Wings and hammer them as you fall, got over 50 of them last time.

I kind of flew too high and a wyvern found me, as well as fighting the destroyer. Got the destroyer down to about 65khp before I died. :( Next time, I'll bring buff potions, and won't go looking for wyverns!

Just been attempting soloing the bosses. Done Destroyer and Skeletron so far, though I am using ranged Hallowed Armour.

Skeletron Prime - Megashark, Iron Skin and Regeneration Potions, Greater Healing Potions. Took about 2-3 minutes and about 500 Crystal Bullets (~1500 if you don't include the 63% chance to conserve ammo). Bit of a pain in the arse since the arms keep getting in the way. Unholy Arrows and Archery Potions could work but I don't think they'll travel fast enough tbh so it'll make aiming harder.

Destroyer - Megashark, Iron Skin and Regeneration Potions, Greater Healing Potions, also used Cross Necklace and Star Cloak. Took around 4 minutes and about 750 crystal bullets (so around 2250 without the ammo conservation). Could probably have used Holy Arrows for more damage but they're not as easy to make in massive quantities.

I'll give Twins a try once I get more Souls of Light...

I just tried to kill the wall of flesh, Wearing full hellstone armour stuffs and a phoenix blaster, managed to get him to about 5000 health before i ran out of room and got thrown into a big pool of lava :(, this is going to take some attempts

Got the destroyer to 50%. Being the dope that I am, I had my compas and depth meter equipped, and I ran out of mana potions when the boss was at about 60% hp. I wasn't playing particularly well, it definitely can be done solo and without using any gear found after defeating the 3 bosses.

I think I'll re-assess my statement on the Twins. They were by far the easiest of the 3. Destroyer wasn't too bad but took ages thanks to his hp. His probes drop loads of hearts so that helps keep you stocked up. Skeletron was a bit of a pain alone since its trickier to hit him since he's a small target and the arms keep getting in the way.

The Twins were surprisingly easy. Took 350 Crystal bullets in a Megashark since they have really low defence. All you need is a long path or some places you can jump to safely. Crystals Bullets did massive damage to them since they hit multiple times and with a long path you can safely sprint away from Spaz's flamethrower while you mow him down. Then you just Magic Mirror back to the centre of the arena and run the other way. Rinse and repeat till Spaz is dead, then just jump around and gun down Reti since he's fairly tame by comparison.

Are you shooting at the Cthulhu heads? The wall itself takes no damage, only the eyes can be damaged. Try using Necro armour instead of Hellstone and make sure you have Ironskin and Regen potions up.

@kalvin - You not combined them into a GPS? Gold Watch + Compass + Depth Meter combines all 3. Can never find a Mimic to drop 1 though.

obsidian skin and water walker potions make it much easier :)

there were three of us, two got pwnd and FT killed it fairly easily whilst we were respawning.

Its a shame there aren't more options tbh. Cloud in a Balloon is awesome for a while, as are the Spectre Boots, though the moment I got my Angel Wings I stuck both in storage (Hermes Boots are cheaper to reforge until you get a good buff like +4 Defence) and the Cloud seemed to mess with the Wings and it wasn't really worth the effort when you can fly so easily.

Would be nice to combine a Cross Necklace with a Cobalt Shield so you can be immune to knockback and invulnerable longer after being hit. Or a Band of Regen with a Starband (not that I care much about the Starband but I'm still using a Band of Regen even at end-game).

Had a bit of an adventure last night: smashed a third shadow orb to summon the Eater of Worlds, it also triggered a meteor strike and a few minutes later a goblin army decided to turn up! Had a bit of a rush from one to the other but now I've a load of Demonite/Shadows Scales and Meteorite bars.

Is the Meteor Armour/Space Gun combo any good, or is it better to just jump straight for the Shadow Armour?
