Terraria - Dig, fight, explore, build

Quick question: is the sea infinite or can you drain it away?

Thinking of making some huge obsidian farm thing but without the splitting i.e. drain sea into (just above) hell.

I dont beleive so. But just out of interest why? After the first couple of stacks of obsidian you can make enough hellstone to get the full set. Then move on to cobalt?

I'm not sure, but earlier today I made a smaller version of the generator here. Two chambers about 10x20 each gives you loads of obsidian and you just need one bucket of water, one of lava and a bit of patience.

Yeh I've got a splitter like that ^ in my other world. Just wanted to make one without the splitting method, for the lulz really. Basically collect a ****load of lava just above the underworld by connecting all the small pools together, then draining the sea into it. Not much point by then again nothing in the game has much of a point :D just thought would be fun.

If you drain the water out of the ocean 1 by creating a 1 block gap at the bottom, it should last forever due to the glitch in the link I posted earlier. :) You may have to block it up every time that you log off though, as the water would most likely get settled and the ocean would fall through the hole!

Unless you're planning to make houses out of Obsidian what is the point in an obsidian generator? You can get more than enough from a few decently sized pools of lava/water as you get nearer hell.

You do know that a pump loop creates infinite water / lava right? None of this nonsense about collecting from the sea :p I made 2 rooms, one with lava one with water, used a few buckets worth on a pump loop and they filled up soon enough. Then I broke down the walls between them and voila obsidian. Minable from below.

Wow I haven't played Terraria in MONTHS! I stopped playing it about a month after release I think it was?

I want to get back into it - but I just don't think I will be able to get my head around all the new stuff. It looks so different...

Perfect time to play. Start another character/world and enjoy the reams of new content :)

Apart from what the other guys said, it's also nice to have a little industrial complex for your house. I don't pick obsidian up off the floor like some hunter-gatherer, I have a factory, with a big ass vat of lava! Civilisation baby! :p

Nope, you scavenge lava off the floor like some bucket wielding nutjob :p

Playing games when you should be finishing your assignments ftl...

1.1.1 is out :)

Another quick question: when you reforge stuff, can you just alt+F4 if you don't get what you want, then keep doing that over and over until you get the best thing, so you don't waste so much money? Or is it on some kind of set cycle?
