I received my reminder last week saying my car insurance will be expiring on the 6/8/06 and that the premium will be £840.

Now I am 24, however I have had two accidents (both non fault) one was December 2004 and all costs were recovered. I also had one in May this year which has not been recovered fully yet (the other insurance company have admitted liability though). So I should have 5 years no claims.

Now I thought I would check an online quote with Tesco. With the same excess it comes out at just under £700 with recovery, I decided to lower the "Voluntary Excess" to £150. I then got a quote with Recovery for just £793.80. Went all the way through and got to the last screen saying enter your card details etc for £793.80 to be debited off, clicked ok and received an email from them.

However in this email its saying that £889.35 is my total premium

Really peed off at the moment as other insurance company's wont quote me with 5 years as Tesco hasn't completed the claim yet (even though I have a letter saying that the other insurance company will cover ALL the costs). I can't believe how expensive my insurance is (im not in a bad post code, 5 years no claims, Cat 2 security, no points on my licence and no fault accidents) and my car is only a mk3 Golf 8v gti

did you choose legal protection?
did you choose road side assistance?
did you choose to have a courtesy car if you have an acccident

all above are extra charges.

Did the price include tax?

you are unhappy with the total then take you custom elsewhere you can normally get a refund minus the period of cover if no claims have been made.

Worth checking other online prices, insuresupermarket is a good one to check. found my renewal with tesco was £250 cheaper with barclays via their site.

Ok I chose Courtesy car etc etc but before I hit "buy" I hit recalculate so it updated the price. I have also re-done the quote a number of times since and it still shows the first price I thought I was paying.....

I also paid in one full lump sum.

Did you get the quote number/print out of the page that said the premium was 793? If so, give them a call tomorrow and tell them you'd like to take out the insurance, but the online thing won't work or something, and they'll prob just retrieve your quote and do it over the phone?

Well I have just rang them, they have told me the premium on the system is £793 and they have no idea where the higher figure has come from. They have told me I will only pay £793 though - to be honest I don't trust them and I am expecting the worst :p
