Thai airport scam. Whoa this is scary.

One of the many reasons I have no intention of ever going to Bangkok.

I would like to visit Thailand eventually however I'm quickly running out of good reasons to balance the utterly horrible.

Yea thats true, its easy to forget that thousands are traveling there all the time as you read this with no problems. But it comes back to that old saw of probabilities - its doesn't matter if the 7 gazillion people before you had no problems when they visited this country - when its you thats targeted for this sort of scam.

So I guess you gotta weigh options, really do the research and then visit.

Then again I used to live in Oakland in California - gangland central. No doubt it was not exactly the safest place on the planet and I did see plenty of...interesting people but never had ANY trouble at all. In fact I feel less safe in London.

Well I got a lift back to my hotel in Thailand from a local police officer after talking to him and his mates anf buying them a few whiskeys in a bar (for pennies), so that shows how seriously law enforcement is taken out there.

It a wonderful place if you ignore the seedy stuff and scare stories. That story originalyl hit the news a couple of years ago just before I went to Thailand to visit a friend who lives out there.

Probably some nutty chain email dragged it up the most read list again.

From reading the story properly, it seems the woman was stupid enough to open her bags and fiddle around with them while in a shop. That pretty stupid thing to do in a forgien country. I'm careful enough not to do that in UK! Because franky it looks sus, i'm not suprised they got pick up.

Better stop leaving your house at all then.

I've heard horror stories about gangs of children stabbing people, some middle eastern people blowing themselves up and even possible asteroids wiping out all planetary life.

Be careful out there!

This.

Quite honestly you're an idiot if you buy into the ridiculous scare stories. Yes they happen, but it's like avoiding the water at beaches because of potential shark attacks.... We're talking 300'000'000 to 1 chance of any problems.

If you avoid SEA and miss out on all the great stuff it has to offer because of scare stories then you're a fool (to put it mildly).
