Today (and tomorrow) I'm doing a employee inventory and update for the new company face a portrait archive of all employees, 1x formal pose and 1x funky per person, was great fun today!

Imagine my horror when I put in my 1gb LEXAR PRO card to find the cards folder contents were EMPTY!!!! Now I had my bag at my desk all afternoon but was not sat at my desk, I had to do some remote work on the laptops elsewhere so don't know if the images genuinely had vanished off the CF card or if someone tried to be a smarty and have a look at everyone's photos and accidentally wiped the folder!

I did a quick google and found pc inspector smart recovery and it seems to have done the job perfectly!

People need to know about this, it could save someone else a heck of allot of hassle when the worst happens!

Aye, I'd be pretty wordless if I had to go in tomorrow and have everyone retake their shots!

Heh it's still going! it's even bringing back shots from ages ago! (so far it's gone back to 27/8/2006) now I know I've formatted and reused the card many many times since then!

I bet you were relieved when you got them all back, I would have been furious if I found the memory card empty.

Do you think someone might have tried having a crafty look?

See if anyone is suprised when you dont need to reshoot all the photos tomorrow, as if someone has deleted them, I bet they know :p

I thought the images were overwritten when new pictures are stored on a memory card?

If memory card file systems work anything like hard drives then when you delete a file it's still there on the disk, just the space it used is marked as usable by other things which want to use it.

If you fill up the drive then theirs a good chance that space used by an accidentally deleted file will get overwrote by another file, but if you don't fill it up then theirs a good chance they will still be there :).

I shall see tomorrow if anyone is suspect :p

Anyways, it's 100% completed now, a few files were corrupted though the jpeg embedded in them works fine, I just extracted that and am using that instead as they only want low res jpegs anyway :p

Great success!
