"Cars emitting over 226g CO2/km but bought before Budget 06 will move into Band K in 2009-10 — and will continue to benefit from a reduced rate, and only in 2010-11 will these cars be placed into the band that corresponds to the car’s CO2 emissions.”
Or buy BMW Alpinas, no CO2 figure so taxed on engine size
Interesting! I've not seen that mentioned anywhere else...
This months Evo states that Alpina's come with a C02 rating. Is that correct?

“The arrogance of Darling is astonishing. When questioned in a radio interview following the budget he suggested that those affected needn’t pay higher VED as they could buy new cars.
I don't get this. Surely the impact on the envionment is greater to design, build and produce a brand new car in materials and factory output than it is to keep a car less than 7 years old on the road?
It's a joke really because all these tax increases do is kick in the balls those who bought a new car in the last 7 years, when they could well have bought their car thinking they were getting something environmentally friendly
Whereas people like myself driving ancient pre 2001 runabouts, knowing our cars are not environmentally sound get no incentive whatsoever to buy a new car, because our tax doesn't change, and anything above us that isn't brand new will be higher rate of tax than our smokey old cars.
