*** The all new Apple iPad thread - Keep all iPad stuff in here ***

Drop box reads pretty much everything.
Ive havnt come across anything it doesnt do yet, and the fact that its the files i have at work and at home too, means i dont have to do more organising...

I think the mag app is Zenio or something like that. iPads just recharging atm otherwise i'd check for you. :).

I see! So it does read PDFs, but one of the things Goodreader is... er.. good at :D is apparently its versatility to read very big PDFs and being also to transcribe PDFS into text form (i.e. you can press a button transpose the text in PDF to a basic document layout).

I'm still trying to decide what use the iPad is. Its just a enlarged iPod Touch with 3G internet addition. Its slightly too large to be considered a truly portable device.

Even the app store is still 90% full of crap that i don't find remotely useful. I just don't see its point at all. Apple still don't support flash. To me its just another ultra expensive gadget to pull out to impress others with your wealth.

I can afford one if I wanted to buy one, but I just don't see what use it would be. It just doesn't seem to fulfil any purpose.

That's just my honest opinion.

Whilst the Android App Store may well be full of 90% crap the Apple App Store is not. It does have crap in it but nowhere near 90%.

The Flash argument has been done to death. It simply isn't right for mobile devices and from what I've seen of it running on Android it won't be for a long time.

Finally as for overpriced well seeing as a Dell Streak is £400+ I don't think we can call the iPad overpriced. Sure it ain't cheap but you don't have to buy one...

I haven't got one yet but I will be getting one - not to show off to others (I have plenty of Apple kit that I never feel the need to show off) but to provide a robust, long lasting and convenient mobile data device - just like my iPhone.

Is it just me who doesnt see the point in Goodreader?
I just leave everything in my free dropbox account and use the free dropbox app to get at stuff? Or am i missing something?

That magazine app, cant remember the name off the top of my head, looks interesting. £8.50ish for 10 issues of most of the mags on there suddenly makes magazines plausable to buy. As they are WAY overpriced now in paper format.

Try and download a PDF through safari and save it in DropBox. I could only do this by using Goodreader and using the upload to DropBox features. DropBox would only let me upload pics or videos from memory

So basically Goodreader allows me to store data ON the iPad, and download files to it via Safari and use appropriately?
What about in mail? It'd be handy if i could select some files within Mail for attachement then send them to whoever. Something that Dropbox lacks to an extent (just a download link).

Anyway, worth knowing:

If anybody is after a good protective case then I can recommend the Proporta Mizu Shell. Not cheap but fits perfectly, soft, grippy with very good protection.

Nice comparison chart

Hardly overpriced !

I've found a case I'm in love with..

http://www.newertech.com/products/nuguardclear.php

Not so much a case as a thin polycarbonate protector, but then I think I prefer the "naked" look anyway

I had a similar thing for my phone, they are great, but they attract dust inside them like no tomorrow, which leads to opening and cleaning. But repeat that a few times puts strain on the clips that holds it together, and then they break.

Headsets, cameras and audio USB devices work (perfect for audio skype calls, if you have a headset!)

I think some hard drives may work, but last time I checked it was touch and go because of power requirements/drivers.

A little loophole :)

Cheers guys.

Im quite literally baffled by this iPad.

Took it off the charger this morning at 8am.
Some light usage. Appstore, youtube etc.

98% charge 8 hours later.

Impressive.
