I'm not that dissimilar to you. I was bored and decided pick one up even when I said it was rubbish and just a big iphone (which it is) when it was first announced.

I don't need it, as I still have to use my Macbook Pro for most task. But mainly wanted it to stream movie/television in the bath

Yep same boat mate (apart from the bath part haha) I don't need it and after the initial novelty has worn off no doubt I'll be back to taking it in turns with the other half on the mbp but I just couldn't help but just get one for the sake of it

Don't think i would need anything... a case i guess (though i dont use one for my ipod touch)
And that would be it... the cam kit maybe... if i ever saw a need for it...and a charger for the wall if my apple one doesn't work though i dont see why it wouldnt. As you just plug it into the wall then put a usb into it and off you go

So what else is there?

Well as you already mentioned I still need to get my hands on both a carry case and a case for when I'm using it. Also want the docking station for leaving it on charge overnight, while doubling up as a clock using nightstand, and perhaps the camera kit.

What are people doing on their iPads then so much compared to their laptops/desktops? Browsing web on them more and stuff?

Well I like the interactive comics/books/apps which take advantage of the touch screen. IMO the iPad has a lot of potential and is already showing it. I'm personally surprised by the interactivity of what the devs have done so far. I didn't think I'd be this impressed with the Ipad.

Does anyone know of a browser that has Java support? As in a iPhone OS version of the JRE.

There is no JRE in any browser on iPhone OS.

to be completely honest, unless you're traveling a lot or spending a lot of time away from home I don't see this as a good purchase.

I bought mine because I am away from home about 1/4 of the year for 2 week periods at a time, sometimes more. So it;s a really handy gadget because it saves having to rent a laptop

There is no JRE in any browser on iPhone OS.

For the thing I want to use, there's a java-based web app and a proper PC app. Wonder how much it would cost to get someone to make an iPhone OS port of either of them...

I asked but they said to look at the website and I couldnt find it. But what happens if you go over the 1gb allowance? Do you get out on the next package above?

Because it's a given you're going to be using it loads to begin with, but after when your usage is more 'normal' I cant see many people using more than 1gb in a month on a 3g network. Most of my big downloads I will do it on broadband not on the 3G network.

What have most people signed up with the 1gb or 10gb? Where can you check your traffic data?

I am on 10G

1G a month leaves you with 30mb a day. A single youtube vid can be that big ! I was on 02 PAYG for the first weekend and I clocked up 70mb just on edge (I was in an EDGE only area), so 10G is a must for me, if you are out and about a lot. Unless you only use it to check emails and forums a few times a day on the go.
