The AMD Driver Thread

I'm running 3 watercooled 290's and seeing between 40 and 60% usage. 15.4 drivers, 1080p downsampled from 1440x2560 on a 60hz monitor, MSAA at 2x, most other bits maxed / close to max.

FPS in GTA V is very varied, sometime going down to 40fps. Doesn't seem right to me given what performance I am seeing others appear to be getting.

Tried with vsync on and off. Anything else I can try?

Turn HQ Shadows off and lower extended shadow distance seems to help.

Matt, I'm still having issues with the corruption in the bottom right-hand corner. The problems in the video have disappeared. Also seen another person in the official GTA thread with the same issue.

Does disabling AA (normal and reflective) solve the issue?

MSAA appears to be the culprit. Disabled all AA and it disappeared. Enabled FXAA and reflection AA and it stayed away. Enabled MSAA and it came back.

Do we have any 7870XT users on this forum suffering from this issue?

That feels smoother now but i'm still not getting constant 60fps. When it dips the cards are typically all doing 50%

I also seem to get periodic flashing or pulsing on highlights, sometimes the qwhole sky does it. Only way to get rid of it is to turn msaa & fxaa off then back on again.

Play around with the advanced graphics settings, might help a little. I expect game patches will improve performance over the coming days/weeks.

Well TBH Matt I'm being REALLY picky.
Generally runs like a dream, looks so impressive.
First time my wife saw it running she stopped mid sentence and just stared at it, trying to work out if it was a game or not. All she said was wow.

Should be smiles all round for everyone this weekend - R*, Red, Green & us users

This launch should be a lesson to all developers for what a AAA title should do from the get-go.

I understand Scotspaul, we're all perfectionists at heart. :)

I have spent the past 4 hours testing these cards on several different games and had no issues whatsoever so I went back onto to GTA V and all appears to be fine, with just single GPU's and then Crossfire.

A decent sized patch was installed which was making me think it was an issue with game, rather than my hardware and/or drivers.

But seeing as I've typed this, I'll be back to square one tomorrow! :p

I've got everything with a bone in it crossed for you Superpatsy.

Just discovered a little tip, so anyone having stuttering issues please give this a try and see if it makes any difference.

Audio Setting called 'Auto-Scan for Music' and you have to turn it OFF.

Matt any recommendations on what to do with GTA 5 and vsync for a single 290 i.e. just use in game or better to use some config with radeon pro?

I use Vsync without issue without RadeonPro, it smooths things out a bit. Might be worth capping 1-5fps below the vsync limit for even smoother performance.

So there seem to be a lot of conflicting opinions, does gta v work with crossfire or not? I'd be running it on 2 x 290 with some vsr and a 3930k at 4.5...

Yes it works very well and this is using QuadFire. If QuadFire works well, then you can bet regular Crossfire will be top notch, because the more gpu's you add the more complex it becomes.

These are my go to settings currently, that offer the minimum amount of stutter. There is a little bit every now and then while driving, game bug it seems, but on the whole it's very smooth.

I have plenty of grunt spare to run higher settings, but i found this mix to work best for me at the moment until future game patches come out.

Tessellation is set to very high.

The above settings offer me 60FPS locked Vsync, with gpu usage around 50-60% per gpu.

just tried your settings and just had to adjust

Reflection quality to very high
soft shadows to softer (can't really tell the difference anyway)
post FX to very high.

With all cards & CPU at stock speeds its getting 55fps average on the benchmark.

Running 14.2 omega drivers as well.

Ignore the benchmark, use in game testing as a measurement of performance of my settings.

Update For AMD Freesync & Crossfire Support

AMD fans have been outspoken about their love for the smooth gameplay of AMD FreeSync™ technology, and have understandably been excited about the prospect of using compatible monitors with the incredible performance of an AMD CrossFire™ configuration.

After vigorous QA testing, however, it’s now clear to us that support for AMD FreeSync™ monitors on a multi-GPU system is not quite ready for release.

As it is our ultimate goal to give AMD customers an ideal experience when using our products, we must announce a delay of the AMD Catalyst™ driver that would offer this support. We will continue to develop and test this solution in accordance with our stringent quality standards, and we will provide another update when it is ready for release

My little idea that should happen is maybe also put a link to the forums inside the AMD driver software?
Let's get communication a number one target towards your user base.

I don't want to be left in the dark about something or guessing something, I understand that you cant always answer every question. But look at the April crossfire Freesync driver did that really need to wait till last day of the month? I very much doubt it did.

Excited about that. ^

Noted on the suggestion. :)
