The AMD Driver Thread

pcars is a GameWorks title, so you'll want to disable those features if running an AMD gpu as neither the developer, nor AMD, is able to optimise any GameWorks code to perform optimally on our hardware.

Matt, how would I go about disabling Gameswork features in pCARS, please?

Such info has never knowingly been divulged during development over the last ~3.5 years on the WMD forum.

Normally via the video options menu as far as i know.

What platform is the new AMD forum going to use? Vbulletin or Lithium i hope. Do you know, Matt?

Jive.

Matt,

I asked you a while ago about the issue I was having with GTA V and the pop-ups (http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=27920869&postcount=3597) and was wondering if you have had any more issues like this being raised?

I have tested both of my cards to the hills and back and it is still happening on both cards individually and in Crossfire on GTA V. I have tested in a variety of other games and I'm not seeing any of these issues crop up in any of them. I got in touch with Asus regarding an RMA for both of the cards and they said they'd be happy to honour the RMA if I could show them more evidence of the problem in other games but couldn't do it. I highly doubt it's a problem with my cards. I also got in touch with Rockstar and they have said it's not an issue with the game. There is also someone else having the same problem in BF: Hardline (http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18667597).

Surely this all narrows it down to be a driver issue?

I'm going to send you a trust message to collect more information from you, stand by.

Just wanted to thank everyone who provided me with bug reports for the Eyefinity - Vsync - Crossfire - Audio sound crackling issue, we've manage to recreate it internally and are now working on fixing it. Once it's been fixed, it will appear in the resolved issues section of the driver release notes.

Is this delayed driver going have VSR support for the 280/280X?

Tahiti won't get VSR, it doesn't have the required silicon AFAIK.

You can already get VSR on older 7000 series Tahiti cards. There's a hack available which you just run and adds permanent extra resolutions.
Search for AMD VSR hack on google and you'll find the following link:

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=397924

We’re working on expanding VSR support so that more AMD users can take advantage of this popular feature. Once it’s ready we’ll be sure to let our customers know. Stay tuned! ;)

It's really not helpful guys to see so much trolling in the driver thread, it makes it difficult for me to navigate the thread trying to help customers who actually have issues.

I've started getting this rubbish again in GTA5. It's been running great for over week and then just started up again. I cant replicate it Heaven or anything so i'm still none the wiser as to whether it's a driver thing or i need to RMA one of my 280x's.

Matt is helping me with this just now. I'll keep you updated. ;)

Goose just to confirm, you're using 280X Crossfire the same as Superpatsy?

Playing half life and the core is set at 500Mhz with little to no GPU usage. Micro stutter is bad. I can't see how it can be the clocks fluctuating when it does not move from 500mhz.

This is why I have stuck with Nvidia the past few years, plug and play no hassles.

Fine with no Vsync, but I don't need 300 FPS for half life or any other game that uses between 20-30% GPU. I want smooth vsync something that just works with Nvidia even at low power clocks.

Try this please Raven.

Clock dropping fix.

1. Download RadeoPro - http://www.radeonpro.info/2013/11/new-build-with-support-for-amd-radeon-r-series/

2. Create a profile using the game exe.

3. Click the profile tab, then the overdrive tab. Click the padlock to unlock overdrive, click enable graphics overdrive, then click 'always use highest performance clocks while gaming'. Don't forget to set +50% power tune in RP. Now right click the game profile shortcut on the left and select apply then launch the game.

New tech? what you on about, what new tech is in the R9 card that prevents stutter with vsync. How come Nvidia have it sorted on cards going back to the 580.

@ matt, now have max clocks but game still stutters.

Strange, Half Life/Half Life 2? I have it and can try it on my 285, will let you know what i find.

How do i repro it Raven? Just download Half Life.

Just played the first two minutes as you come in on the train, locked at 60FPS with vsync on no stutter at all. What am i missing? I was using maximum settings, max available res was 2400x1200 or something weird. I have black bars around my 4K panel. GPU is sitting in 2D mode and core clock is around 650Mhz.

AMDMatt,

I activated VSR yesterday for first time.

It has one side effect, after awhile (2-3 screen loads eg area change etc) in Elder Scrolls Online the ingame fog is gone and I can see miles ahead to the other end of the map. (or other island for that matter)

Graphics quality is improved and, weird, performance is improved also by 8-9 fps across the board, except couple of cities which remained the same.
Wasn't supposed to take a performance hit by activating it?

WOT & WoWs (warships), WT (War Thunder) haven't seen any issues, fps remain high and graphics look bit better

Thanks for the feedback.

We're going to be improving VSR support and the number of resolutions available, so tuned for that. :)

not sure if this is the best place to post

i've recently picked up an MSI r9 280x which is having issues installing the latest drivers

by default windows 8 lists the card as a AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series Microsoft Corporation - WDDM v1.20

when i install 14.12 or 15.4 over this it does not install the display driver

however i can install 14.4 & below with no issues at all

but when i go from 14.4 to 14.12/15.4 it still does not update/install the latest display driver

ive done this on a fresh windows 8 install

should i rma?

thanks

We stopped providing support for Windows 8 in Catalyst 14.6. So you'll need to stay on 14.4, or take the free upgrade to Windows 8.1.

WoW the catalyst control center is lacking so many features compared to Nvidia.

Just picked up an 7950 to mess about with and I can't seem to find an option to make a custom resolution and refresh rate, is there any built in?

In older games like half life that use little GPU power with Vsync on I'm getting horrendous micro stutter, is this because of the clocks lowering in game, is there a fix?

I know Nvidia can force max clocks in games but I don't even need to that as I can play older games with Vsync on and suffer no stutter with lower clocks with an 780.

I can see why some people prefer Nvidia over AMD from a driver/software stand point.

And is there a fix?

It aint regualr Vsync stutter, it's do do with the low GPU usage. And as stated it's not there with Nvidia.

How do i repro it Raven? Just download Half Life.

Ran 4K windowed, no stutter at all Raven. Tested on a 285 which is very similar to a 7950.

That's without using RadeonPro by the way.
