The anime thread sequel (it's still not as good as the Manga though),

Received the BD release of the AnoHana movie earlier this week and ended up watching it this morning (I've got a few days off work).

Over all ... I'm not really that sure what to make of it. I really liked the TV series and that is one of my favourites. The movie though. well firstly do not watch it if you haven't seen the series as there are parts which won't really make much sense as the movie kind of runs in parallel to parts of the series and then has events a year later ... but it really doesn't stand on it's own very well. It's not an alternative re-telling, more a slight expansion of the series in a way which wasn't really needed ... from what was added they could have really just released an OVA falling after the original series.

If you do watch it then make sure to watch to the end of the credits.

For anyone in Nottingham the Broadway appears to have Ghibli films on each Saturday afternoon during August as part of the #StudioGhibliForever series mentioned on the Studio Ghibli UK Facebook page.

02/08 The Cat Returns
09/08 Princess Mononoke
16/08 Howl's Moving Castle
23/08 My Neighbour Totoro
30/08 Spirited Away

On the downside, afternoon matinee during the school holidays ... I think I'll stick with watching at home.

yeah, why do kids pay to go to cinema and spend the entire time screaming and throwing popcorn :(
I have not been to the cinema in over 20 years mainly for this reason
on a different note i got around to `Girls und Panzer Kore ga Hontou no Anzio-sen Desu!`
yesterday :)
Was a bit dissapointed TBH i was expecting .....better ,it was (as i had suspected)`the missing episode`
The battle against Anzio school that was not shown during the series
Nothing special at all imho

and the Appleseed film i watched last week was as i said before a `alternate`setting. That said i enjoyed it :D
I liked the attention to detail in the images and the action was good too.English Dialogue was not as bad as it could have been,i have not seen it in Japanese yet ,next time for that
Also got around to finishing off my BD box of theAKB0048 second stage. While i liked this i did not think it was as good as the first season(music wise i enjoyed series 1 more)Wish there will be a third season to end it `better`

That's one thing I will say in favour of the Broadway in the Nottingham ... it's more of an art-house cinema than a big multiplex and you don't tend to get any chavs and if there are children then they are normally there with their parents and under control.

When I tend to go it tends to be older people mostly.

No such luck with the Odeon/Cineworld in MK. That said having 2 cinemas with lots of screens between them does help.

I'd imagine the Odeon is also not as busy as it's older. That said I've got Cineworld Unlimited card, so guess where I go 99% of the time...

Ok that was gory and made no sense whatsoever!

On to Devilman

EDIT : Is the voice over of the first demon in OVA 2 the same voice that does Cell in DBZ?

It looks like Spirited Away is up for pre-order on blu-ray for ~£25, along with a 12 or 13 disk set which is only £250....

I'm going to watch Claymore again!

Such a great Anime, one of the best just a shame it was cut short and could've done with another season

Good, Spirited Away will be on my Christmas list ... The Boxset will not (assuming it is roughly the same as the equivalent Japanese release then I've got most of the content anyway from the individual releases thus far). If it is the same as the Japanese BD box then that is 11 films over 13 disks, but includes Castle of Caliogstro which doesn't appear to have English subtitles in the Japanese release ... The price, despite being high is a saving over the Japanese release of ~£100 before shipping and customs etc.

I just hope that it won't effect future single BD releases of the rest of the films.

Now if they released the soundtrack boxset at a cheaper price than the Japanese release ....

Is there anything else like Claymore? Can't say I've seen anything like it!

Watched it again and again ( Soundtrack, fighting, special powers, gore, storyline has everything I need )

claymore is a tough one to get similar to it... and I like it too, I just watched it again too :)

I can only really think of and some are 'borderline' if you get me.

blood+,
dance in the vampire bund - vampires and werewolf story, pretty good in my opinion.
rozen maiden (the original, not the remake) - yes it's magical dolls but seriously it's got a fantastic musical score and in my opinion a great plot.
mirai nikki (aka the future diary)
deadman wonderland - maybe not the gore (I can't remember it being too gory but others are saying it is...) but it covers the rest ok
elfen lied - you want gore you say....watch this... although it does have some nudity too.
shiki - newbie in mysterious town etc
another
dusk maiden of amnesia
black lagoon - not exactly special powers but if you're like me you'll like this, it would be in my top 10 with claymore, eureka 7, rahxephon and fate stay night... all of which are good too by the way :)

edit: forgot about gantz

Elfen lied and Deadman Wonderland was so awesome!

Thanks for the rest, will check out the ones I haven't seen in your list :)

http://kancolle-anime.jp/ got updated, release date is now Jan 2015.

I'm so ****ing excited for this, I can't wait! Will rewatch each episode a dozen or so times and each week to wait for the next episode will be hell.

This is the best thing since anything.

PV is expected any minute now and according to /jp some have already seen it. The CGI is meant to be super high quality and it starts with Akagi shooting a arrow that transforms into torpedo bombers then it shows Fubuki in battle, will have two seasons it seems and since Kancolle is ****ing huge, it will likely span three seasons, plus OVA's and Movies.

Just watched Claymore thanks to this thread... was thoroughly enjoyable :) Definitely one of the better ones out there! Really needed something this good to rekindle my interest in anime... last one I saw was Hellsing Ultimate which was also very enjoyable :)

Thanks all! :)
