The anime thread sequel (it's still not as good as the Manga though),

:( why can I never have nice things!
I'll have to amuse myself with something else for a while!

While Tenchi will always have a special memory for me for basically introducing me to the world of anime all that time ago. Looking back it really wasn't that great, or more accurately there was bags of potential but the story went nowhere and was a bit of a mess, there's far better Harem shows.

Thanks for the responses guys, has helped clear things up a lot for me (especially about Ergo Proxy being OOP, was not aware of that :(). Was a bit sceptical in the past about ordering from the US but might have to give a few of these vendors a try.

On a side note, finally finished watching Elfen Lied last night - I'm speechless. It's been a long time since I've watched anything that gripped me the way it did.

I've actually had a chance to watch some Anime the past few days :)
I'm on Moribito Guardians of the Spirit, which I'm really enjoying (cheers for the heads up Alex).

I've also been reading more manga in the past few weeks than in the past couple of years, mainly because I've needed something I can pick up and enjoy in small bursts :)
I've gone through CCS, Eureka 7, and now on Oh My Goddess (I ordered the first ten volumes, but getting the rest is going to cost a fortune - they're up to volume 400 or something).

Nimdok, I was a bit surprised to see Ergo Proxy was OOP when I went to get it a while back :(
Hopefully it's one of the titles that will see a rerelease, as I think it's one of the Pioneer/Geneon titles that is in limbo, but was probably popular enough for someone to rescue it (and then hopefully MVM to get a licence again).

Ergo Proxy has been licensed rescued by Funimation. It has been solicited (now) in the US for the end of August on their Classic Line label (originally it was supposed to be being released in July but that date has appeared to have slipped).

I'm always tempted by the Oh My Goddess manga and have some of the early volumes but, whilst I like the anime, I struggle with the art style of the manga and, as you say, with volume 41 just being released it would be quite a significant investment in order to get up to date with the series. I do have a slight problem with manga that I am very bad at actually reading the series I am following, I''ll get the volumes as they come out but then not actually get around to reading them and eventually they are moved onto the shelves from the incoming pile. I really need to get around to reading volumes 3 and 4 of A Certain Scientific Railgun at the moment.

One interesting manga I did get at the weekend, although haven't read yet, is volume 1 of Chihayafuru ... whilst it hasn't been released in English by a western company it has been release in Japan as a bilingual release where it is translated into English and then there are little bit of Japanese text around the sections of the page translating things into Japanese.

Anime wise, I've been quite busy with other things recently, as well as keeping up to date with more ongoing series than I do normally, hence I didn't really get around to watching that much at the weekend ...

Occult Academy ... on NISA's BD release. Usual nice NISA packaging but this time this is just a BD (region A) release rather than a BD/DVD combo. The series is a pretty reasonable supernatural (with some sci-fi) watch and doesn't take itself overly seriously. The female lead character does also have some epic zettai ryōiki of course :)

Chu-Bra ... a strange comedy series about underwear. The main character is the granddaughter of an underwear designer and is very interested in the subject so creates a club at school for the study of the subject, (but not in a perverted way). The series is quite amusing but you do get the feeling that it is trying to hard at times.

Just a heads up as Sentai filmworks have finally gotten their fingers out of their backsides and announced a August 7 release date for the second season of The World God Only Knows (I've just gotta figure out how to squeeze it into my pre-order list as I'll be pre-ordering the Shana season 1 DVD/BD set and my finances around that time will be a bit limited).

Currently making my way through Naruto (not Shippuuden) upto around episode 110-115? Basically when Naruto, Neji, Kiba et all get sent to find Sasuke after he leaves the village with the sound ninja's, and yeah i am pretty impressed, always turned my nose up at Naruto for ages but it seems to really be growing on me.

Still haven't finished Darker than black and Noein lol.

Guess I'll wait until August to pick up Ergo Proxy then, cheers again Andi :)

Think I'm gonna order a few boxsets from Amazon (thinking Rin, Tokko, Black Blood Brothers, Noein, and Claymore), though I see a number of others are only available through US marketplace sellers - do I have to pay a tax charge (or whatever it's called) to customs if I order from an American seller on Amazon UK?

If it is shipped from the US then you'll be liable for Customs charges wherever you are purchasing from, (assuming of course the shipment meets the criteria for being charged and does get checked).

edit:

Finished watching Cat Planet Cuties (appalling English name) this evening on the Funimation BD release. Nice, light, fun series which looks good on BD.

I thought they called it Bombshells from the Sky? Anyway i really liked this one and Eris has to be the hottest Anime girl for ages! I'd would have loved a second series but series like this rarely do

That was the subtitle for the anime release in Japan; Asobi ni iku yo!: Bombshells from the Sky ... but Funimation went with Cat Planet Cuties as the title for the US release. :(

So, last year I got a couple of canvases made up from a certain undine based series.

Well the place I got the done from has another very good sale on at the moment so I got a few more done (along with some other non-anime related ones):

(poor pictures due to (a) phone camera and (b) they are still covered in plastic). Each one is 40x60cm.

This gives me 5x 40x60cm pictures (in the anime style) and 1x 90x130cm which is more in the manga style.

I am tempted to maybe make a couple of non-undine ones as the offer is on until the end of the month at the place I got them from. The non-anime ones I also got are in the things-I-got-this-month thread in GD.

Got around to finish watching Air Gear the other day, started when it first aired and never got around to finishing it:o
Anyway borrowed the DVDs and watched the dub,Dub was OK i thought
Last couple of eps seemed very rushed to me like they were in a hurry to finish. As there has been no second season and it has been finished for a few years i guess this was the case, shame as the ending just sort of stopped with no closure :(
Watched the first of the ova s and was like  like it was a chunk from some time in the future.....maybe weird.Did not think much of the ova,2 more left to watch but i may not bother after that.
Over all i enjoyed the series but disliked the ending,or lack of

Well after being a little silent, I kicked in the old marathon gear again for:
Shakugan no Shana Final - 7.5/10

I marathoned this and finished it the night before last (I went through it in 2 1/2 days in blocks of 5+ shows, as I'd been waiting to see it) but was too tired to write a mini review yesterday so I've left it today.

I think Shakugan no Shana Final is probably only a show I could recommend to fans of the previous material; it's not a bad show, but its a show that lacks any sort of founding direction if you haven't seen the previous seasons, and there is little in the way of explanation to who, what, why or how in many cases.

There are also several noticeable points where you can tell the series is a condensed version of several books, as we seemingly have a few characters that have just appeared out of nowhere who seem relatively important, yet we get very little background information on them.

That said, whilst my review may sound negative so far, it's not a bad show, for those who found action a little lacking in the second series compared to the first (unfortunately I prefered the heavier drama element of the second season), it is definately a more action orientated finale; and I also applaud it for taking one of the core precepts of the series, the Shana and Yuji pairing, and completely turning it on it's head for a large segment of the show.

It's not the ending I'd perhaps have chosen, and I think there are certain elements that could have been better done, but overall Shana 3 is a likeable romp with the previously introduced characters, as long as you can accept a little plot condensing and the aforementioned precept reversal, which may come across as jarring for some, especially after the second season.
It definately errs more towards the shounen element this season though, compared to the more drama based second, and your preferences will likely influence your thoughts.

Animation throughout the show is reasonable, with occasional sections that do look quite nice, although compared with previous seasons of the show, you can tell JC Studio has very definately cut corners by duplicating character designs for the Crimzon Denizens repeatedly. Whilst this is forgivable with the much larger scale, it would still have been nice to see a bit more variety.

Oh, and I also still ABSOLUTELY DESPISE the character of Dantalion the Professor, he is quite literally one of my most disliked characters in any anime, simply because he is so deliberately over the top and out of place compared to many of the scenes and characters he contrasts against.
I really wish they hadn't chosen to represent him anywhere near as much in this series, or had at least toned him down

I think i wrote a mini review a few pages back, for me it was a serious let down from the first two series that i enjoyed a lot. So i was looking forward to season 3. I just found the whole thing incomprehensible. Not what was going on, i understood all the plot fine enough. It was the motivations of the characters. Yuji especially, I'm surprised Shana was so forgiving at the end, i just wanted to throw my cat at the screen in frustration on just how stupid and unnecessary the whole thing ended up being and felt a little cheated

Watched a few things this weekend ...

Dirty Pair ... the first half of the first season on Nozomi's DVD release. Now I've been meaning to take a look at this for quite some time and I eventually caved and picked up the first set (almost blind). From what I'd read about the series I was expecting a due of female troubleshooters who go out solving problems and blowing **** up ... kind of like an older version of KiddyGrade. And to an extent this is the case ... but, for me, the series just doesn't really seam to work; the animation style is older than I prefer which drops my enjoyment level but mostly the plots and characters seemed way to simplistic, even 2-dimensional, and just not up to modern standards. At the moment I doubt I'll pick up the second half of the series.

Sora no Woto ... on Nozomi's release. Needed something known good which this is. Looks, and sounds, good and has good characters and stories. Mixes comedy with emotional parts and becomes a nice rounded series. It sometimes gets the moniker of "K-On goes to war" but this is really a bit unfair as whilst the characters can be a bit moe-blob'y they do have more substance and back story. The series could do with a follow on, especially after the last episode which happens after the main ending. Nozomi's release is one of their usual good quality ones ad even has two subtitle tracks (with and without honourifics).

Someday's Dreamers ... On Geneon's release (although this has recently been license rescued by Sentai). Nice little series about a girl coming to Tokyo to train as a mage. She has to learn not only how to do the role but also why she should, or should not, do things whilst her teacher struggles with his past. It is a really nice little series and it would be good if Sentai also released the second series which never got a licensed release originally.

Watched a few latest episodes as well but was a bit limited as I was doing some maintenance on my NASes over the weekend which meant I was unable to access things on them for playback for quite some time both days.

I would comment on Hyouka which seems an interesting series this season. It is a "mystery solving" sort of series but manages to avoid most of the pitfalls in that sort of series and remains quite interesting, even though you can have a whole episode where characters are basically sitting around talking over what the think happened at a past event.

Where do people buy figma's in the UK? I am currently in Tokyo and wouldn't mind comparing the prices I saw in Akihabara to what it is at home. I already could tell a lot of the blurays were expensive there so wasn't sure on figures.

I have got Figmas from UP in the past (although then they were around £17-20 but looking now they are around £35-40 on there!).

If you want cheap figures then it may be worth having a look at Mandarake (spelling) either in Akihabara or Nakano (5mins from Shinjuku) as they deal in second hand goods and you can get some very good figure deals there (at least you could in the Osaka branch ... oh for more suitcase space).

There was also another second hand shop which had a good selection of DVDs/BDs on the road along the south end of the block Akihabara station is on (roughly where it goes under the railway). Personally though I like the Animate store (partly due to their good aircon ;))
