The anime thread sequel (it's still not as good as the Manga though),

I finally got to see a cam of the latest Dragon Ball Z movie that's due to come out this year UK and while I wont spoilt it, I still can't get round the 2.5 art smashed into 3D! It's like a cutscene in a Dragon Ball Z playstation game :(

I cancelled Crunchyroll when My Dress Up Darling/AOT finished a month or so ago so not caught up on any new anime. Then last week whilst looking for more K-Dramas on Korean Netflix I notice Spy Family is on Korea…except it doesn’t have English subtitles.

Then last night, I checked Netflix Japan…BOOM! Spy Family is on there! And My Dress My Darling as well.

So started watching Spy Family, 3 episodes in, not bad so far, although from what everyone has been saying, I was expecting better.

You probably went in expecting too much, for me it was the opposite.

New Season kicking off, only thing I've seen from it so far is that show that @Zenduri mentioned here that I can't say as it contains swearies. I was a little mid on it tbh, it's over the top/cheesiness may appeal more to some people than it did to me. In the end I just put it down as "OK".

From the other new stuff I am planning to watch these ones, some as they go, some later when more episodes come out. This appears very much a season of sequels:

Overlord S4 - https://myanimelist.net/anime/48895/Overlord_IV
Devil is a Part Timer S2 - https://myanimelist.net/anime/48413/Hataraku_Maou-sama
Rental Girlfriends S2 - https://myanimelist.net/anime/42963/Kanojo_Okarishimasu_2nd_Season (I have low expectations with this one)
Made in Abyss S2 - https://myanimelist.net/anime/41084/Made_in_Abyss__Retsujitsu_no_Ougonkyou (I may actually re-watch it all from S1 and the movie as it's been a while)
Classroom of the Elite S2 - https://myanimelist.net/anime/51096/Youkoso_Jitsuryoku_Shijou_Shugi_no_Kyoushitsu_e_TV_2nd_Season
Is it wrong to pick up girls in a Dungeon S4 - https://myanimelist.net/anime/47164...gatteiru_Darou_ka_IV__Shin_Shou_-_Meikyuu-hen (also fairly low expectations here)
Call of the Night - https://myanimelist.net/anime/50346/Yofukashi_no_Uta
Uncle from another World - https://myanimelist.net/anime/49220/Isekai_Ojisan

I will keep an eye out for any promising sleeper shows I'm not watching as the season goes along.

"*******!! -Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy" is meant to be a remake and if its cheesey that will be good for my cheese fill this season :D Just started watching episode 1 now

The following are firmly on my watch list for this season:

Overlord S4
Devil is a Part Timer S2
Rent a Girlfriend S2
Is it wrong to pick up girls in a Dungeon S4
Call of the Night
Uncle from another World

There's the usual glut of isekai trash shows this season so i'll prob pick one or two of those up to kill some time lol

I'd definitely go more than 5-6/10 but then everyone has different tastes as these things are so subjective!

Talking of different tastes, i'm so hyped its only 4 months until Kancolle S2 is here after 7 years of waiting! I remember spending ages trying to explain to a friend what the show is and the story/lore behind it as the concept is weird but he watched it and fell in love with the anime :D

I don't think I've seen season 1 or really heard anything about it, what is it like?

Got em :D It was the first anime i ever watched so i have a soft spot for it.

This is prob the easiest summary "In a world where humanity faces the threat of the abyssal fleet which has taken over the seas, special human girls who don weaponized outfits and possess the spirit of historical naval vessels (WW2 Japanese navy Ships) known as kanmusu (艦娘, literally "fleet girls" or "ship girls") are the only ones capable of countering them. The kanmusu live together at a naval base, where they spend their everyday lives as they begin training for battle.

The series features the destroyer Fubuki as the main character, with the storyline based on her point of view. Fubuki arrives at the naval base, where she meets other girls that she will eventually fight alongside. Despite lacking adequate combat training, she is recommended into the Third Torpedo Squadron by the admiral, and quickly finds herself sortied into battle. Upon being rescued by Akagi in a dangerous situation, Fubuki strives to do her best in order to train, with the hopes of eventually being able to fight alongside Akagi."

It started as a web game that spawned an anime and a movie and was/still is to some degree, insanely popular in Japan especially at comiket. There is suprisingly a lot of WW2 ship nerdery in the game and anime. For example one character Sendai, is obsessed with fighting at night but this is due to pretty much every major operation the real life ship was in was at night, the rigging the chracters use to fight is accurate to the real life ships and the operation names are real world operations and names from WW2

Oh it's the one about the anime girls who are ships as well lmao! I've definitely seen those, wasn't sure what they were from.

Definitely get soft spots for early anime, one of my first ones when back into it after a decade long hiatus was Elfen Lied, that haunting OP and the sad tales of the girls.

Was it a great anime? not really, especially compared to a lot of the stuff I've seen since :)

I don't want to go too philosophical here, but that's one of the reasons I like anime like Dress up Darling, it does a really good job of showing how it's good not to judge people for their hobbies, even if they are unusual, or not a hobby you have any interest in. It's just a very positive/wholesome message that you can use in real life.

Anime is a lot more mainstream now than when I was watching it around 2006~ but there is still a bit of stigma around it for some people who may not have given it a proper try.

I picked it up again after a decade or so long hiatus (maybe even longer than a decade) when lockdown kicked in for covid, I was finding I was tired of most of the regular tv shows I was watching and I thought I'd go back and try some anime as it had been a while, first on my list was Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Think I'd seen the original version way back when it came out, so I'd never seen the newer/fully adapted story.

From there, things are history! According to MAL I have completed 255 "things" since March 2020 which will include different seasons of the same show, but it's still quite a few unique shows.

Saying that I have dipped back into live action stuff a few times as well, if I see a show that really interests me I'll stop anime watching and check it out for a change of pace. Last ones I saw were Squid Game and Severance, both were good watches :)

Funnily enough a work colleague of mine who was hugely into it for a while seems to have gone off it lately. He has/had a massive collection of anime so it's kind of sad to see. I'm not sure if he just got burnt out or whatever, I could see that. I think if I was getting that way I'd just tone down how much stuff I saw. Eventually I'll run out of good shows to check out from the back catalogue.

Watched ******* Heavy Metal at the weekend on Netflix and knew nothing of the series before hand, plenty of fan service and impressed enough that I hope they get s2 greenlit to see where it goes.

Super Crookes was an interesting take and had a unique style to it that reminded me of Great Pretender.
