I only really got into Anime about 6-7 years ago and i had always scoffed at it. Now i binge shows and consume huge amounts of Anime lol
I don't want to go too philosophical here, but that's one of the reasons I like anime like Dress up Darling, it does a really good job of showing how it's good not to judge people for their hobbies, even if they are unusual, or not a hobby you have any interest in. It's just a very positive/wholesome message that you can use in real life.
Anime is a lot more mainstream now than when I was watching it around 2006~ but there is still a bit of stigma around it for some people who may not have given it a proper try.
I picked it up again after a decade or so long hiatus (maybe even longer than a decade) when lockdown kicked in for covid, I was finding I was tired of most of the regular tv shows I was watching and I thought I'd go back and try some anime as it had been a while, first on my list was Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Think I'd seen the original version way back when it came out, so I'd never seen the newer/fully adapted story.
From there, things are history! According to MAL I have completed 255 "things" since March 2020 which will include different seasons of the same show, but it's still quite a few unique shows.
Saying that I have dipped back into live action stuff a few times as well, if I see a show that really interests me I'll stop anime watching and check it out for a change of pace. Last ones I saw were Squid Game and Severance, both were good watches
Funnily enough a work colleague of mine who was hugely into it for a while seems to have gone off it lately. He has/had a massive collection of anime so it's kind of sad to see. I'm not sure if he just got burnt out or whatever, I could see that. I think if I was getting that way I'd just tone down how much stuff I saw. Eventually I'll run out of good shows to check out from the back catalogue.
