The Best Smart Phone?

Problem here is this:

It's very subjective.....
There are a lot of phones out there....
I haven't used them all....

Therefore my answer and the majority of everybody else's answer, would be biased.

OK, here goes.. and I expect a bashing for it.

I love my iPhone.... there I said it. Its functionality as a media device is fantastic. The app store alone makes it worthwhile. No other device currently on the market can compete with it on that stage at the moment, but that could change. The operating system is great and its very easy to use.

However it does have flaws. Camera is average. A lot of people complain about it not doing a great job as a phone, personally, apart from reception (which could be O2's fault) I've never had any issues. Its hardware specs aren't as high as many others out there on the market, It can't multi-task.... etc. Does any of this bother me as a user.... no !

I still have a G1 we also have an Iphone and G2 in the family.

The big downfall with all of these devices is battery life. Actually use it and you will be very lucky to last the day.

For me the G1 is still best because of the physical keyboard

HTC HD2.

Sure, I might be biased as I have one, but then you can't really comment on something you haven't used at length.

My Touch Pro2 was good, my Xperia X1 actually a bit crap, and my older WM phones ran older versions of WM so all were crappy tbh.

BUT, the HD2 really does come in to it's own as a WM phone. The fact that HTC did such a good job of making the WM6.5 interface actually usable means I am actually going to hold out to try WM7 before thinking about jumping ship to Android.

The customisability and power of the device is staggering, BUT you need to be prepared to put in the legwork to get it how you want. It helps if you have a geeky background/interest.

The iPhone does a great job out of the box, but if you want more than that... you have to jailbreak, and even then it doesn't offer that much more. App store is well integrated, but a lot of the apps are pure dross.

So it's horses for courses.

I use my HD2 for music (does fine) and videos (800x480 encoded HD looks amazing on the 4'2" screen!) primarily, bit of Garmin GPS (great on the big screen and very accurate GPS), and texting (Swype is an amazing software keyboard). Even gaming on WM has a bright future, given some of the OpenGL 2.0 things already in development (plus you can get a PS1 emulator for the HD2, pair it with a MSI BP100 bluetooth controller and enjoy!).

For me it has to be my BB 9700...after using Symbian, Winmo, Android and even the iphone i have to say the BB has given me the most joy out of all of them.

Cant really see myself using another device other than a BB at the moment...im interested in what the new iphone will bring to the table if anything.

It depends on what you want.

Integration with outlook on a pc - windows Mobile or phone as its now called
Media - iphone although win mo does fairly well with core player
Online integration - I'd say android just has the edge over palm
Constant emailing - blackberry
lots of fart apps - iphone

If I had to pick I would go android (nexus one), windows mobile (htc diamond 3 if ever released), symbian (pick a nokia :)), palm pre, nokia with maemo and then if I was forced an iPhone.

Just on a hunch...

(and that's only the first link of many)

O..M..G..:p

I'd suggest the HD2 as well (although I don't have it). I do however have the HD and essentially the HD2 improves on everything the HD does so that means it's a very good machine. The good thing about (modern) WM is that it works out of the box, yet if you want to really go crazy you can and completely change it.:)

N900 (new tech could be great with linux free source copy left OS but could be equally pi$$ poor if not developed)
HTC HD2 (personally wouldn't go WM after owning a HTC Touch HD very buggy)
CrackBerry 9700 (never seen appeal)
I-phone (although some would argue the toss on it being a smart phone, camera dyer and premium price)
Google Driod (if it comes out)
SE Xperia X10 (1ghz cpu, report of bad UI but could be a sleeper if it can be flashed to googles cup cake.)
nexus one
