Which means i'm interested in buying new trousers, preferably waterproof that can easily fit over jeans.

Also looking for some gloves that actually have some feel. I don't mind paying upto £100 for some decent gloves.

Any ideas/experiences guys?

TIA

Do you want just waterproof overtrousers or proper textile trousers? I wear textile furygan trousers over my normal jeans, lovely and toasty warm :D

If you've got a jacket, get the matching textile trousers to zip to them, means no cold air getting in.

Gloves - no idea for winter gloves, I'm a heated grip and muff fan, which means you can wear summer gloves.

Yer textile trousers over normal jeans here. They're "shower proof" at best so I have some waterproof over trouser if it's proper raining (I commute for an hour so get plenty wet).

Short of goretex nothing is truly waterproof.

I nearly bought muffs last week, then I remembered I don't ride a pink Vespa... :p

Might get heated grips though, hate winter gloves so grips and summer gloves should be fine.

I need to grab some stuff to re-waterproof my textile jacket. I ordered a pair of winter gloves from Sportsbikeshop but they told me their suppliers have let them down and it will be the 15th that they arrive. I thought no big deal it isn't that cold but suddenly it has got chilly. Oh well I'll just have to bear with it for now.

I do need to get some more thermal socks.

My textiles will keep my dry through 45 minutes of heavy rain on a naked bike so good enough for me, goretex bonded is the best though as everything else gets soaked through and is still wet come home time.

Muffs - don't be hating on muffs!! :D Heated grips and muffs, with summer gloves, you'll wonder why you didn't try them before!! :D

Same as TallPaul I used Tucano Urbano muffs last winter, combined with summer gloves and heated grips I had no issues. The muffs take less than a minute to install and remove. Unless you have bar end mirrors, which I don't.

The Aprilia doesn't have heated grips and am loathed to install aftermarket ones (they all look crap) so I've picked up a pair of Rukka R-Star Goretex 2in1 'chambered' gloves. Not cheap (it's Rukka..) but they are the best winter glove I've ever owned, albeit a bit on the thick side.

Yep, minus 5 here at night at the moment. Going to get a couple of feet of snow in the next few weeks.

Heated grips are crap as they just make your palms sweaty and don't heat the outside parts that actually get cold. Heated gloves are amazing though.

The issue with my heated grips is that they're just fighting a losing battle vs the cold - this morning in 1 degree they were barely warm, but put some muffs round them and in the same temperature they'll be toasty!

But the wind chill will always get toy your fingers, need to get them out the wind (muffs/handguards) or heat the whole hand.

If I was doing a longer commuter/more DC or motorway I'd get a heated fleece and heated gloves, best thing out there by far.

I can honestly say I've never had sweaty palms from using heated grips. The problem I find, as you have mentioned, is they don't actually heat up the parts you need heated. The outside of your hand and finger tips still cop the cold blast and go numb.

Winter biking, don't you just love it :)

First time in 30 + winters I have a bike which come with heated grips only tried them once last janurary it's not been that cold this past 3 or so years but will try out tomorrow night when going to a firework display see if it changes my world :p

Heated gloves are the way forward, although I was eyeing up the heated tucano muffs yesterday but I'm skint so I'll stick to my gloves.

I'm still sceptical about heated grips. I guess they warm the whole inside of your glove, but to me it seems like you'd just have sweaty palms and freezing backs of hands :p

I reckon hand guards would give you almost as much warmth as heated grips.
