I would agree with you.....however, if it were my Son and Wife that was murdered, nothing on this earth would stop me from killing the person responsible.....and damn the consequences and morality of it.

Although, that is vengeance, I would have no interest in justice.

I think even the strongest opponents of the death penalty would be likely to act in the same way. I think I probably would as well.

As you say vengeance is what an individual craves in those circumstances not justice.

I have never heard an argument that has convinced me to support capital punishment. I can't view it as anything other than barbaric.

Voted yes. For murderers were there is unquestionable doubt but certainly not with the current Judaical system which is flawed with the prejudiced jury service.

Science and technology may have evolved to high standard to make convictions easier but at the same time has also worked against.

As for the humanity side.. I see no humanitarian or remorse in those convicted of such horrific crimes so they are of no loss to society really..

It's never black and white though. What about manslaughter, assisted suicide, negligence. Where do you draw the line? who decides who should die and who shouldn't? Whoever it is has far too much power.

Against.

I do however think that criminals "Human Rights" should differ (i know that go against the reason for human rights, but still..). I really do not think that a murderer, rapist and general despicable human beings should be allowed almost hotel-like services, with TV, consoles, fun activities etc.
I am against the current status of "punishment" that they get, being locked away in a hotel is not good enough.
Depending on the crime i would prefer to see people in a more solitary environment.

It's amazing how many otherwise sensible members here are completely deluded. They seem to think that 100% proof exists. It doesn't, unless you agree to killing ill people.

Forensic evidence can be contaminated, witnesses can be unreliable, and defendants could just be mentally ill, in which place a secure hospital is the place for them, no a mortuary.

An innocent person can be killed at the hands of a murderer. So I'm ok with the killer being killed.

"New evidence has been found in the Purple Aki murder showing the DNA at the scene had been falsely identified. It would now seem Purple Aki was innocent."

"Ooops....we killed him!"
"So we killed an innocent person?"
"yep...looks like it"
"blast, that's a bit annoying"

Especially as that person could be anyone here at the wrong place at the wrong place

Murder. Those who deliberately and intentionally go out to take the life of another or others. Fred West would have been an example to this if he hadn't have taken his own life.

For. but i believe the death penalty should be in a 'Gladiators' sort of way with savage dogs and people sentenced fighting to survive .... but they still die

on a more serious note certain things people deserve to die for. for instance what about these locals http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cambridgeshire-18070507

if there is no death penalty then they should change the rules so that you are sentenced to die behind bars at least

Against... However as said above... Their human rights should be altered if they take the life of another person (you can even give them their "original" human rights once they have been rehabilitated).

On a side note... I don't think prisons should be as "cushy" as they appear to be.

Quite right, pretty much same opinion as i.

Human rights are not human rights if you can pick & choose who get's them.

They are meant to apply for everybody for a very good reason, it prevents the abuse of power & further picking & choosing based off less honourable reasons.

People who harp on about human right seem to be forgetting what's happened in the last 100 years, they need to be strengthened if anything.
