the East Lancs Road

well I'm planning on using it as an alternate route to the motorway between manchester and liverpool... due to lack of experience on the motorway

Is this some sort of a joke?

It's a Motorway, you join it, drive in a straight line (or at worst a slight corner) at 70mph, then leave again.

If you cant handle that please hand your license in and pop to http://www.nationalrail.co.uk.

50mph in lots of parts now. It was much more useful when it was NSL tbh, and yes, the way in to Manchester is irritating with all the traffic lights that always change just as I get to them at 50mph.

The motorway is probably safer than the east lancs tbh, on the motorway you just go straight or a slight curve every so often, the east lancs is up to 60mph then stopping for lights all the time, then back up to 60 and it's dual carriageway so the lane system works like a motorway except there's one less,

Just go on the motorway, it's much easier than you expect

It's an irritating road to drive, much better off using the motorway to be honest.

Motorway's wide enough for six cars side by side, yet there are only ever three at the most, everyone is travelling in exactly the same direction, there are no pedestrians, junctions, driveways, roundabouts, kerbs, or traffic lights...you can see for half a mile ahead of you and half a mile behind.

How people manage to drive their cars in to each other in those conditions is beyond me.

I used to do the journey Salford -> Knowsley (right by the Holiday Inn) every day and the M62 was waaaaay quicker outbound in the morining but not much difference in the evening, the East lancs is damn annoying with the lights especially around the M6 area *grrrr* and during the national is was :-o

My advice is motorway, its much easier; once you've done it for a week you'll wonder what the worry is.

TBH I can't see the difference between the motorway and most of the A-roads (dual Carriage bits) you drive just the same along them.. (according the speed limits of course ;) 0

Definitely take the m'way, just dont be one of those idiots that sits in the middle lane not actually overtaking anyone, or worse still doing the same at 70mph in the fast lane.

Loads of traffic lights, roundabouts, speed bumps and other traffic calming measures.

We don't use it at rush hour, so I can't comment on that, but for driving into Livepool I'd always use the M62 rather than the A580.

Driving on the motorway will be much easier.
There's no stop-starting, and you can just stick to the inside lane without having to maneuver too much if you like. People drive just as fast on the East Lancs as they do on the 62, and there are just as many idiots driving on it. The motorway is faster, easier, and safer.
