I think the point was you are assuming that if you have a movie in a mkv container then you're automatically a pirate.
It's perfectly possible you want to encode your own blu-rays and DVDs to watch on a media center at will without the hassle of fiddling with discs. And mkv is probably the best container out there for this at the moment - save for it's somewhat more limited support than older containers.
If Sony doesn't support mkv for piracy reasons, then why do they bother supporting others like avi and mp4? You can easily get your pirated wares in a supported format if you wanted.
I'm out of this thread, All the crazy folk seem to come out at night. Then in the morning someone comes along and backs my point up.
You are deluded if you think the most popular reason for wanting MKV support is to play movies you yourself have encoded,
