It's super weird how people won't accept the fact that people are illegally migrating here because they want to live and work in the UK without applying for a Visa, not because their country of origin is unsafe. I mean I accept the fact that their home countries are **** holes, but let's not pretend they're Jews escaping Nazi Germany at the threat of death camps, that's simply not the case.

Yes they're economic migrants rather than asylum seekers, the latter is just used as a way to achieve their goal. We can't house unlimited numbers of people who just choose they'd like to pitch up on our shores, it's just not practical and we should be sorting our housing market / stock out to assist our own citizens first.

To be honest, this thread is quite well illustrating how utterly based upon 'feelings' rather than logic the anti-asylum crowd is.

Barely a shred of critical analysis between all of you.

There's no benefit to flooding our country with more people who aren't going to work or we have no need for or who will be taking jobs that UK citizens should get.

What I want to know is what is the incentive to come to Britain?

European countries have always said we're a soft touch and thats why people head here instead of stopping in europe.

So why are people coming here instead of staying in europe?

We have loads of shortages of labour that asylum seekers could help fill. Except they aren't allowed to work (another government choice that they could change)

Yes it's certainly not something I overly understand. The idea that the majority have links here seems rather tenuous, and spending thousands of pounds to risk their lives getting here illegally doesn't seem to make much sense unless they really do believe this is the land of milk and honey.

Of course. Stopping an asylum seekers getting to claim asylum because they have no documentation is insane.

That's not what you said and your response is wrong.

You proposed that entry to the UK for asylum purposes would not require a passport.

As you will know, asylum seekers do have claims approved without travel documentation. This happens under the existing process.

That means lack of travel documentation does not rule out a successful claim.

The likely impact of your scene would be to increase entries, and the proportion of entries with no identification, adding further difficulty to an asylum system already stretched to breaking point.

And also encourage many more people to risk their lives in the channel.

I propose a one in, one out system where we send a dinghy full of our oiks back for every one that comes across. Pretty sure most of the asylum seekers will be better members of society than half the people we have in the country already.

Yes, but you have to be in the UK before you can apply for asylum (UK government choice, again), so you need to travel here first.

That's because people destroy their passports and lie about their country of origin to apply for asylum so they can live here, are you that naive?

Am heart brokenly sad at what happened in the English Channel yesterday. Utterly appalling!

Listening to the news this morning and was surprised to hear everyone blaming "people traffickers". We have people traffickers because people choose to pay them huge sums of money to do something that they know is illegal. These people are choosing to bypass the legal ways to get into the UK to get into tiny unseaworthy boats despite numerous drownings. France is perfectly safe as were any number of the EU countries passed through on the way to the English Channel.

Seriously what the hell is going on!

AND in other news... UK food bank usage is at a record high and people living in poverty is also on the way up.

Blame france for letting this happen.

Thankfully we have a voting system where any government stupid enough to try and enact proposals such as "cheesyboy's" free for all would be out on their ear. There's a lot of PC and dishonesty in here, a majority of the UK voting population simply don't want these mainly young male people of dubious, none documented origin and intent, and will vote for a party they believe will robustly counter illegal immigration under the veil of asylum seeking.

If the situation worsens the parties offering the most robust immigration controls will be in with a good shout. Boris has proven useless in this regard, although having greedy lawyers costing the legal aid system a fortune with specious claims from these crooks, and the liberal wets opposing any robust counter measures makes his job unenviable to say the least.

The ones crossing or attempting to cross are a tiny number of the total number who enter EU countries each year, mainly due to there actually being more favourable conditions for them over there. The ones that do it are either told to by traffickers who sell them a dream, language, family ties, ease of black market work. A lot are uneducated and when they're told by unscrupulous people what to do they blindly follow.

Imagine getting on a dinghy with your wife and 4 kids all under 10 and taking a trip that could easily kill all of you. I cant imagine they are fully cognitive of the risks.
