Can someone explain how a EU tax identification number is a bad thing? Surely that just makes it easier to move around and pay appropriate taxes in the country you're currently working in  (Gisela said this as if it was the most awful thing ever that we should have vetoed)

Because it's a step along the way to paying tax directly to the EU and bypassing national governments.

So, no-one from the leave side seemed to reply to the statement from Boris that he is pro immigration and proposes we give amnesty to illegal immigrants who have been here for 12 years...

Anyone wish to comment on that little snippet? as I surmise from your months of posting, granting illegal immigrants the legal right to stay just because they dodged the authorities for 12 years wouldn't be high up on your Christmas lists..

To be fair they should be knighted for that. :) 12 years is a long time!

I don't think it's beyond the realm of possibility that within the next 20 years we'll be paying 1-2% income tax direct to the EU.

I'd actually be surprised if it were that low. Don't US citizens all have to pay a 10% federal income tax whether or not they live in the US or not? I expect the EU will want to adopt a similar model in time. Oh and don't expect it to be collected through a convenient PAYE-type scheme, that's a British system which the French won't want, so more likely we'll have to fill in a tax return at the end of every tax year.
