Got a source John? I have to admit my suspicions were roused by the difference in attitudes between Farage's questioners and Cameron's. Reminds me of that Tory plant in the Question Time audience who gave Milliband a hard time.

Doesn't work then either.

How would the UK leaving the EU alter the rules that France has to comply with when dealing with illegal migrants?

Exactly - how does staying in benefit us in this regard when France isn't allowed to help us secure our borders at the moment?

So anything that affects us that we can't control currently, and won't be altered by Brexit, is a reason to leave

You can admit that you took a misleading DM article at face value if you want, but we aren't affected by the directive in question and can protect our borders against illegal migration if we choose to.

What?

That would only be a valid comment if the only purpose of the EU was to stop illegal migrants entering from France!

On last nights' town hall debate, Mr Cameron claimed that being in the EU was better because by working together we improved security. This article shows that far from working together, the EU actively prevents France from helping us combat the problem of illegal immigration.

This is my point - so where's the value in staying in? At least if we're out we can do something about legal migration.

Because there's a reasonable amount of control over legal migration as it stands (generally speaking, immigration is a positive anyway) and there are other benefits to staying in.

Voting out for the purpose of potentially being able to cut down further on legal immigration whilst ignoring all the other benefits being lost is like cutting your nose off to spite your face.

I don't think anyone is saying that the potential isn't there to reduce legal immigration if we left - that is obvious - but given that it's not really that big a deal and due to the higher risk and the other benefits we'd lose, that seems a bit of an odd viewpoint to take.

Well I suggest the chap in the audience who told Mr Cameron he couldn't get a GP appointment and his town had been turned into a no-go area because of immigration would probably disagree that immigration was generally positive.

In what way?

Then that would suggest he doesn't understand the meaning of the word 'generally'.

Anyone can quote isolated incidents but statistically, it is generally positive.
