The FA Community Shield - Chelsea v Manchester City *spoilers* [12th August 2012]

He was bought when he was playing really well in the middle but with having people like De Jong and Toure already occupying those positions he doesn't have much of a chance it that role.

They also have Barry. City is the perfect team to be ran by an Italian. So many defensive options. Score 1 goal and defend, thats what they do... and thats what he tried to do in his first season.

Attacking football worked out ok for him though.

This is what UTD are lacking, plan b. We don't have anyone on the bench that can come on and close out a game. I don't think we have ever had to be honest. Fergie likes his wingers too much.

I think you're a little knarky that your team lost (hence the rant)

Rant? That's not a rant.
Just pointing out that it's a bit silly saying that a team who hasn't played competitively this season is better than any other.

It's silly saying a team that missed out on the title by GD is better than a team that finished 6th? Ok I'm silly then.

You should stop talking about football.

I cannot comment on the 2nd half but there definately a huge difference in levels of sharpness between the 2 teams. Chelsea looked half asleep and almost bored to be there. Hopefully this will be a wake up call to them with sunday approaching. Need a decent start if you want to keep pace with a city team very much up to speed.

City most certainly do not need another striker if they can keep tevez's dummy in the mouth.

Went yesterday and really enjoyed it. Was nice to have it somewhere different to Wembley.

I haven't seen the game back but from where i was sat the Ivanovic tackle didn't look like a red. Savic wasn't one either.

The fluidity was still there in our team which is good to see considering the different pre season schedules and so on and missing 4 key players which are starters. We looked solid in midfield and defence was good considering its the first game against real opposition we have tried this formation.

Tevez looks very sharp and very fit which is good as he usually slacks off in preseason and struggles at the start.

MoTM would have been Tevez. Yaya bossed the midfield but wasn't at his attacking best.

I don't know if the players just need to play together more but Chelsea were really quite bad. Terry is looking truly past it, he struggled last season against Liverpool and Arsenal especially, Hazard was just incredible with some of the diving and complaining he was doing. Definitely expected him to tear Savic a new one as well considering the hype.

Very disappointed to see Kolo throw his medal into the crowd and storm down the tunnel. He knows his time is up.

Ivanovic will not be suspended for the beginning of the Premier League campaign as the game is not classed as a competitive first team fixture. He is banned for three non-first team games. Yellow cards will not count towards the seasons tally either.

Played well, but sadly going down to 10 man would always be a struggle against the premier league champions.

Can't wait till the season opener next week.

Have the rules changed then?

EDIT: Of course they have....

However, it has been confirmed that the Football Association changed its rules after an incident during an Amsterdam Tournament in 2006, when Manchester United pair Paul Scholes and Wayne Rooney were both sent off against Porto and ended up serving three-match bans.
