so chuffed ye old Scotts decided to stay part of the family im a soft southerner through and through but i love the scots and all that they bring to the United Kingdom YAY!!!

Time to bend over and let Westminster decide what we do again, I guess.

It's time to give the English their own parliament with the same devolved powers as Scotland, increase the powers of the Welsh assembly similarly and have Westminster only deal with UK wide issues.

Don't be a daft sod. Scotland have devolved powers, and after the no vote, they'll get even more devolved powers.

You're daft for just assuming they'll deliver so readily. They have no mandate to do so, and the last time they promised powers they delivered Thatcher. Powers came what, 20 years later?

Glad it's no.

It's closer enough to have a repeat of this in the near future though, I assume?

No, Salmond has said it was a "once in a generation" event, and Cameron this morning mentioned "once in a lifetime". The people have spoken. Maybe it can happen again in 50 years, but it has been so divisive and disruptive people need to accept that Yes lost.

I think this was always going to be a No. When you've got a vote that's so close, the 'safe' option usually always wins.

Scotland would have eventually found themselves in trouble without us, so it's for the best.

People have said that if it were put differently the Union would have had more backing.

ie if the question is

do you want to remain part of the UK? YES/NO

I followed the debate without having a vote. I would have voted yes solely on Nuclear weapons which have no place in Scotland.

I wonder if devolved powers will stretch to allowing a reduced corporation tax to complete with Ireland?

we didn't lose we opted to remain the best part of the UK ;)

Who cares about Rugby..... :)

Ahh feels good to get back to the old routine of friendly jibes :D

can we not just scrap the Welsh Assembly?

You realise with these devoled parliaments we now have

1 MP
1 MEP
1 WAM

for every fricking county.

all on silly money. as well as doubling up all he commissioners etc.

who all incidentally demand the same pay cheque as their English counterparts so the English one may be looking after the needs of 60+million people the welsh one only 3 but he gets the same money an usually just does what the other one does anyway.

scrap it all i say.

Rub off the borders, ditch the names and rename the whole ****ing island to Great Britain.

No England, no Wales, no Scotland, no United Kingdom just Great Britain.

The interests of northern England are totally different to the interests of the south west, or the south east.

Perhaps we need more power at the county/regional level.

Who's for Cornish independence? :p

Interesting idea but I don't think it works that way without people getting shot. :)

I take your point on the number of MP's etc. as there are far far too many across the board and agree that a complete overhaul of the current system is required.

I can see some logic in your point Tefal but I think that what the whole referendum issue has shown is that a lot of people want more local control over things. I'm not saying that it would make much difference though.
I actually agree that an English parliament/assembly is the way forward - I can totally understand why some are unhappy with Scots MPs having input over English issues - this' should' give everyone a forum for their issues and then have Westminster over seeing national issues.
Scrap the house of Lords and use that to pay for/towards the cost.

I'm not so sure the interests of the north are all that different, it's more a question of priorities. The regions feel they don't get their fair share of government spending, and that is probably true. If more money was sent to the regions to pay for infrastructure and so forth, I think things would be a lot more settled than they currently are.
