The generic and somewhat pointless "What are your new years resolutions?" thread.

Why the inverted commas around resolutions? And what is wrong with them? I believe if they're done correctly with willpower and intent then they are a good thing.

Because I love inverted commas.

And because they usually involve lofty goals, with no real intent to achieve them. Often involving parting with large sums of cash. If people truly wanted to stop doing something, or start doing something, then they'd go about it the proper way. With planning and with care. Not just because "it's the new year lolz".
 
I see, so it isn't new years resolutions that you despise, it's the lip service that people pay to it, with no possibility of carrying it past the first week in January.

I can agree with that.
