The give up smoking challenge

I stopped smoking recently, around the middle of june. I was a very heavy smoker for over 20 years and it wasn't easy but if you really want to stop smoking, you will.

I went out yesterday and bought myself a Nexus 7 as a reward for stopping XD

I've got my date set.

Best of luck bro. No "I'll just have one to treat myself" or "I can have a puff on someone elses every now and then"
You know that bit of pain in your soul, after having a tug, imagine that every time you think of having a smoke. You know you'll regret it, just your body is starved of nicotine and trying to convince you otherwise.

I'm up for this. Tried a week ago and managed Monday-Friday but then got bored at the weekend and gave in :(

Busy this weekend so hopefully that'll take my mind off things and allow me to power through. Tomorrow we start then!

Agreed. Start now, as you will fail if you try tomorrow.

You don't really want to give up, do you, OP?

This is so true, no point setting a date, if you're going to do it, just do it, don't set a date as you've already made your first excuse not to do it now! Try smoking a cigarette now and really analyse it, what exactly are you enjoying about it? Nothing, it's your craving taking the enjoyment, you're just the carriage for your addiction.

lol GD we do this every year! Its called a new years resolution but the day after people just bust open another packet of fags lol.

Lies. I had my last smoke at 11.50pm on 31st December 2011 and haven't touched one since. Best thing I ever did. :) I was wanting to quit, and my new (at the time) girlfriend - now my fiancée - said she'd support me and that she didn't really enjoy having an ashtray as a partner... I never touched one since.

The first month was HARD, especially on just willpower, but I got through it. I don't really think about cigs now, apart from the odd moment every few weeks where I'll think 'Oh I could usually smoke a cig about now' (heavy meal, stress) and just shrug it off and carry on. It's easy these days though that first month's stresses, cravings and mood swings nearly broke me.

It IS possible. I'd smoked 30 to 40 a day for almost 14 years before this year. You just have to keep on keeping on.
