Hi, i got a gigabyte 980TI G1 Gaming, it overclock s well, easily to 1500mhz boost / 7800memory, fans aint bad either, but its the coil wine, i know you have to expect, i built a silent pc, noctua case fans, notua cooler, all nicely controlled , even in gaming it aint that loud,

this coil wining is annoying, every game i play its there and games with vsync on, can hear it over the fans , would it be possible to RMA it for this reason ? paying this much for a card i expect it to be perfect, i had a MSI 290 gaming that would do it slighlty when benchmarking but never in games

i just looking to get a refund and buying the Palit GeForce GTX 980Ti Super Jetstream instead

Alarm bells ringing! Check it's not coming from that Coolermaster Psu of yours. If not, send it back under DSR or whatever it's now called if it's intrusive.

i aint got another power supply to test, well guess will have to put my ear right next to each and find out,

its a great card, boosts very high, fans are fine dont find them loud they stay around 60%, with amount it costs i would expect it to be better, and i dont think i wanna get used to it

i dont get any coil wine in the menu's just when start playing,

should have got the Palit GeForce GTX 980Ti Super Jetstream

Yeah just double check. I seem to recall someone else from here suffered with coil whine with that Psu until they changed it out. Some cards seem to be more sensitive than others with certain Psu's.

I RMA'd mine due to this. I was gutted cos it was a cracking card, but I could never have put up with that whine.

will check in the morning , need to arrange it so can be right next to it while testing, you think Refund will be ok for coil wine issue ? i wouldnt mind if it was low, i played metal gear soild, that only seems to load gpu at around 30% and coil wine is ok, but GTA5 its loud, guess the more GPU usage the more noise, benchmarks stress it the most so i guess thats right

Thanks mate, i checked today and its the PSU with the coil whine, so looks like need to look for a new PSU, wasnt planning on this, but kind of relived it aint the card as it performs so well

I have a Corsair CX750 and it has massive coil whine with a G1 Gaming 980Ti too, uscool.

I thought it was whine from the card, RMA'd it, got a second card and heard the whine again, someone on this thread asked me to check my PSU and it turned out it was that causing the awful noise.

yup lucky Geeman1979 posted asking me to check PSU, as i was gonna RMA the Card dont get any hint of coil whine from card, im kind of relieved because the card is amazing , got it easily to 1500gpu / 7800 memory and its silent , doesn't go above 60% fan on auto ,

im gonna go for HXi Series HX1000i PSU which is 1000W so hope that resolves it,

did you get another PSU ?

That's the biggest problem - most usually blames the Gpu.

PSU's and mobo's are just as likely to cause this.
 
can i join the club ;), think i got a great card, was gonna RMA it for coil whine, but its the PSU , easily clocked it to boost 1500mhz / 7800mhz memory and fans aint loud either :D

I'd stay away from Corsair. Get yourself a Super Flower or an EVGA. They have 5 and 10 years warranty respectively and are the best PSUs you can buy.

I personally decided to suck the noise up until I did my new build, which was meant to be this weekend but OcUK sent me the wrong PSU, so I have to wait until later next week :(

In my case - I had a 7970 - It was fine. I had a GTX 970 - It was fine. I had a GTX 980 - It was fine. I got a 980Ti - It started... I never assumed it wouldn't be the GPU as the other 2 I had within a 30 day period were fine. It's a valid assumption in my opinion.
